I've never physically driven one, but I've raced Golfs in SCCA ITB. They are amazing to follow through corners, the rear wheel on the inside of the turn always lifts 2-2.5 feet off the ground. You can tell when they're trailbraking too, because the wheel will suddenly sieze in midair. Tells you how to set up a pass by where they brake.
Nice move--that is pretty much how my Corrado drove too. If I had that much power though, the Corrado would have jumped about five feet to the side coming into 2nd--at least at the kind of revs you'd have getting to 60 in 2.5.
Driving/Passenger-- 220 kph (about 140 MPH) in a Ford Mondeo on the Autobahn My car is an SL500 and I get up to 100-110 on I-95 pretty commonly, but it's also fairly common to get in with a group of traffic running 85-90 on that road too.
138 mph in my Civic Si on an empty highway. Got pulled over by a jackass hiding at the bottom of a huge hill for dong 83 in a 55 later that same day.
Quick funny story. A friend of mine (Clint) was riding his motorcycle through rural Wyoming one day. He was having a great time seeing what his bike would do when he happened to glance into the rear-view and saw Mr John Law with all lights blazing!! So Clint stops, gets off the bike, takes off his helmet and waits for the officer to come up. As soon as he gets there, Clint asks him what speed he clocked on the radar. The officer responds "95". Clint replied with "Oh, thank God."
140 indicated (probably a true 136) on my motorcycle, chasing an M3 and an M5 somewhere in central PA. Gave up after about ten miles, as my bike only has small sport fairing, and those speeds get tiring real fast.
120 mph, I-75 N, headed toward Atlanta, in a 1996 Honda Passport. Of course this was in 1997, and I'd like to think I'm smarter now.
128 in a Honda Accord 115-ish in my Pontiac Grand Am As a passenger, I've never exceeded my own numbers.
250 kmh a few times in some BMW 7 series, my dad was driving all the time. 190 kmh in my VW Golf Both on the Autobahn
I've topped out my toyota tacoma @110. I try to top out my jeep cherokee @ around 95 i almost lose control. Oh well i'll try again when i get a Ferrari.
I had a BRG TR-6. I pegged the speedometer needle at 110. I did get a speeding ticket. 85 in a 65. Traffic school.
I had a friend that rebuilt TR6's and TR7's with Boss 302's and sometimes that old Rover 4 litre. I have no idea how fast we went in those things--usually we were accelerating so quickly that I couldn't even look.
My cousin had an MGB-GT with a V8 (again, Rover 4 liter from the factory), and that thing ran like a raped date.
Just over 140, in a Viper in March, 1996. I only had it above 140 for maybe 2 seconds though, because I was on a 2 lane higway.
The speed limiter topped out at 115 mph in my 97 se-r on I-95 in North Carolina on the way to Myrtle Beach. Off course the speedos lie, it was probably about 108 mph or so.
