I'll admit, I'm an idiot with some of this stuff. But, does anyone do a lot of uploading of videos on to YouTube?

If so, how do you do it?

I guess I'm confused with just the first step. If I have something burned to a dvd and I want to put it on YouTube, do I first need a program on my computer that allows me to watch and download dvd's to my computer? And then once I have that I then go to my account on YouTube and upload it there?

    Any help would be nice.

And don't laugh at me, thanks.

I believe you have to rip the DVD to your hard drive first. DVD's are usually encoded so you can't pull straight from them to the internet. You usually have to decode or rip it first, then edit and post. I've been told Handbrake is a good program for ripping DVD's, but I haven't been able to get it to work on my laptop (it's old and might just be too slow of a machine). The program works wonders on my cousin's Macbook.
