Hope sure has proven she is a winner, with the saves that she makes in the big games, and the medals that came with the saves. I keep hearing that the hate for Hope extends only to her comments and attitude, not her skill as a GK. I find it funny that Pia wins 2 gold medals, and loses a pk shootout in the WWC final, along with remaining #1 ranked and winning tons of games, and we have a whole thread dedicated to getting rid of her. Because as people have said, she might have made decisions that allowed us to win, but they weren't the best possible decisions. Ryan wins a ton of games but can't even get to the final of the WWC, and he isn't considered a failure? When he makes the worst decision in the single biggest game of his time as USWNT coach?
necron99 I need to let you know that I was using the Charlie Sheen version of winning/winner: Winning verb (frequently used) 1. the act of triumphing over studio executives, famous fathers, and jerky show-runners (Insert soccer coaches and teammates here), who then have no choice but to "lay down with their ugly wives and their ugly children and just look at their loser lives" 2. an exclamation point used at the end of a sentence, e.g., "Sorry, you thought you were just messing with one dude. Winning" Entire Sheen glossary is found here: http://www.vulture.com/2011/03/charlie_sheen_glossary.html
I totally understood what you were getting at. I was saying that I disagree. Hope is a winner in the correct sense of the word for her play on the field. Any of the other stuff is superfluous. I don't care for all of the off the field stuff, but I do not let it cloud my judgement of what goes on between the pipes. The "you don't sell out your teammate" or any of those other platitudes are equally annoying to me. I think both of the parties are incorrect. Hope could have handled 2007 better, and her teammates were ridiculous in how far they took the shaming. But all of that does not change that Hope wins games.
I have trouble getting beyond the notion that saying she would have made the saves was not a personal attack on Scurry. We want our athletes to have the narcissism necessary to reach an elite level, but when it clouds their notion of the team construct even with five years of reflection, they deserve scorn.
I don't know if this has been posted today but here is Greg Ryan's respons to Solo's accusations in her book: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/socce...ch-denies-hope-solo-claim-223417111--sow.html
U.S. goalkeeper Scurry out to make amends By Joseph White // Associated Press // August 9, 2004 Visit U.S. Soccer IRAKLION, Greece (AP) _ There's no doubt in Briana Scurry's mind. If she had been the starting goalkeeper four years ago in Sydney, the U.S. women's soccer team would have won the gold medal. ``I put myself into that entire game,'' she said. ``And I've always felt -- and I still feel -- that if I were playing, we would have won.'' So was that a personal attack by Briana Scurry on Siri Mullinix?
Why the hell are we posting like it's 2007 all over again instead of celebrating a 2012 Olympic Gold Medal?
Amen to that. Though I suppose that all publicity is good publicity. And everything that has ever come out of Hope's mouth is back up for argument again because she published a book about it all. The fact is people are going to fall on both sides of the issues just like they did back when they happened, and no amount of arguing is going to change their minds. But we all want to hear ourselves talk, so arguing will continue anyway. I haven't shut up yet, so I am part of it.
Because this particular thread is about Solo's book. In her book she goes into deep about Ryan and 2007. So within the framework of this thread, this is proper. And very interesting may I add.
For my poor reading comprehension, what is the "this" in your post? Do you mean if Solo's allegation is true it is disturbing? Or do you mean if Solo's made the allegation but her allegation is not true (which seems to be what the article implies) then that's the disturbing pattern? Or both? Just want to make sure I'm understanding properly. thx.
i'd say it's disturbing either/all ways.. there would have been witnesses to this slap across the face... I bet the network is thrilled she's saying it's all rigged though!
Great way to get yourself invited to other Dlist celebrity tv shows. Not really. I mean, most of those type of shows work hard to make sure certain contestants make it through--or at least to make sure the viewers know which ones the judges really want. But it's bad form for the contestants to say that out loud.
I pulled out two Philadelphia Charge programs. The 2002 reads: And 2003: I also have a 2003 WUSA Media Guide, which has the same listing as the program. No mention of goalkeeper coaches in any of them.
I wanted to make light of the situations, but I'm afraid I'll get banned... I'm not going to question the validity of the physical altercations. I will say those are very serious accusations and I don't like those coming out in a book. That's seriously ********ing with a person's livelihood.
Well, technically both possibilities are disturbing. But let's say the allegations are true. As a woman, I'm disturbed that another woman(a younger one, no less) would allow a man to violently put his hands on her and NOT do anything other than write about it in a book?! First Ryan, now Maks? These stories indicate a pattern of tolerating physical abuse. Are we going to hear about others? I sincerely hope that the girls that read these excerpts don't think that such behavior is normal because it's NOT!
Well we do know that there was a physical altercation between Maks and Hope on the show. They made a big deal out of it during the program, and they had him apologize. The footage made it out that he had grabbed her hard on the wrist and tugged her. While that is never appropriate, the level of apology seemed like it was more serious than what we saw. Unless of course the whole thing was made up and they did it for ratings (even though it made the show and Maks look bad). I am not sure why she would make an even bigger deal out of it then what was seen on the show when she appeared to be have put it behind her and was seemed to be getting along with Maks. (I personally would not have made a bigger deal out of it if I was writing the book).
The Revenge of Hope Solo. is this trait part of the passive-aggressive personality she tends to have?
"But according to Hope's new memoir, "Solo: A Memoir of Hope," things were even worse backstage. In a section devoted to "Dancing," the Olympic gold medalist claims that during one particularly tough practice session, Maks got so angry with her that "he slapped me across the face. Hard." She wrote that "he was extremely apologetic," and that her ears rang afterward. Hope also claims that the cameras were rolling during the incident (the footage later disappeared, according to her) and that ABC had offered to take Maks off the show and give her a new partner, but she declined." I don't care how sincere an apology is, that kind of sh*t is NEVER ok.
