Shame that it has to be played at Mongkok, which is neither team's home ground.
According to South China AA's Steven Lo, the setting up of a new "Hong Kong Professional League Co Ltd" is being discussed by a committee created by the HKFA. He is one of the committee members. The fans hope that this will bring more professionalism (and by extension sponsorship) into the organization and management of the HK league. I hope to see proper home and away games for every club. HK clubs never saw the need for home and away games because they think they will get the fans in by playing good football and they want every fan in HK to be their fans. That's how it worked in the 50s and 60s. It just does not work now and they cannot cope with it. The older fans also think it is unneccesary to do all that work. They like the fact that Mongkok Stadium is sort of in the centre of Kowloon and is quite easily accessible by MTR. I do not agree at all and I think and hope Tai Po FC, who plays at home this year, will prove them wrong with better attendance figures. TSW Pegasus will get three home games this year and I hope they pack their ground, too.
I think it should be upto the clubs to decide where they play. Let HKFA set criteria and standards, thats fine, aslong as they don't go overboard and then let the clubs come up with the goods, if they can't then play at Mongkok, byt at least it will give clubs their own identity and give them chance to set up like most other clubs around the world, it's the only way forward really. After all, they are not trying to please to whole of HK, but just their own little fanbase.
Obviously forcing teams to become district sides of certain districts is wrong. They should take their own initialtive to become a district side of their own choice. But it is, in my opinion, a much more economical way to promote themselves. After all if only a few thousand people fill the stands is already a good day for today's standards. HKFA went to see Yuen Long Stadium yesterday with TSW Pegasus chairman and stadium officials. They have decided the ground is only good for one game per match day, not double games. They lack proper scoreboards and changing rooms for 4 teams. Apparently only 2 changing rooms are available. But the all important grass turf is good. I hope HKFA will grant them more home games this season. TSW Pegasus is a strong side and will be good for the district to have games there.
I'm sure one game a week would be sufficient. The last thing they need is games being moved around week after week from stadium to stadium. If HKFA want clubs to suceed, then they need to let them find their own feet and grow and make that all important fanbase. Surely the fans cannot be too happy not knowing where sides are playing, i mean we are entering week 3 and the FA has just decided to check out their ground. Shouldn't this have been done before the season?
Well, the Yuen Long Stadium was being refurbished from May to September, so there wasn't too much point for the HKFA to go and see it until the work was done. But they could have gone to see the Shenzhen sports ground that Xiangxue Eisiti wanted to use. Now they have to move all their games to Mongkok or Siu Sai Wan. HKFA should have a proper plan B in place well in advance.
Tuen Mun Progoal are basically amateurs trying to have a crack at HK 1st Division Football. They are definitely the weakest team among the 13 and unless they bring in a group of good foreign players soon (24 Sept is transfer deadline, window reopens in Jan) they will not be able to win a single game. South China's boss Steven Lo is disappointed they did not score more. He thought the team played poorly. By the way, TSW Pegasus lost 1:2 to Tai Po. Tai Po remains on top of the league.
Round 3 results roundup 19.09.2008 Mutual FC 0 - 4 Convoy Sun Hei 19.09.2008 Sheffield United 2 - 3 Citizen AA 20.09.2008 TSW Pegasus 1 - 2 Wofoo Tai Po 20.09.2008 Tuen Mun Progoal 0 - 9 South China 21.09.2008 Fourway Athletics 4 - 0 Xiangxue Eisiti 21.09.2008 Eastern AA 1 - 3 Kitchee
All six games of this round were played at Mongkok Stadium. The electronic scoreboard at the stadium was kaput on Sat... they had to update the score manually. (Basically a bloke going up to the scoreboard and changed it.) This is the sad state of HK football. Next week Tai Po will play at home again and Xiangxue Eisiti will play at Siu Sai Wan against Happy Valley. I wonder if any fans will travel to Siu Sai Wan for the game...
HKFA confirmed TSW Pegasus home game at Yuen Long Stadium against South China AA on 5 October. Mutual vs Citizen AA will play there that day also. The football community is very excited by this game. Many local folks in Yuen Long is likely to attend. The Yuen Long Stadium has a capacity of 5,000 and it might sell out. This weekend Tai Po will play its second home game this season against Mutual. Xiangxue will then play at Siu Sai Wan against Happy Valley. I think Xiangxue's game will draw a very small crowd only.

The two games on 1 Oct is probably going to be quite poorly attended, as apart from Convoy Sunhei, the rest are rather weak and have very few fans. The one game on everyone's lips is TSW Pegasus's home game at Yuen Long Stadium against South China AA. This will be the first HK League game in Yuen Long for 20 years or more; plus TSW Pegasus and South China are like "brothers". Steven Lo and his BMA promotional company has interests in both teams. It might become a sell out.
Sadly today's games at Yuen Long Stadium has to be postponed due to heavy rain this morning. The drainage at the stadium was unable to cope with the rain and there was lots of standing water. Mutual and Citizen's game will be moved to other times. TSW Pegasus and South China AA will play on Wednesday night 20:00, still at Yuen Long Stadium. Lots of disappointed fans today.
That is a pity, especially since it was a weekened game, hopefully the disappointed fans will be able to turn up midweek

The "HK Professional League" proposal has not been approved by the HKFA. HKFA Chairman Brian Leung said the agreement was only granted by employees of the clubs and not the owners. He said Lam Kin-Ming, Eastern AA's owner, was not aware of the proposal. Given that Mr. Lam Kin Ming did not even know Eastern AA won the Silver Shield last year, I am not too surprised. Everyone knows he is a very busy man.
TSW Pegasus won the game against South China AA 3-2 in front of 2,500 fans, it is the biggest turn out for the year. But unfortunately they put 7 foreigners on the field at the same time during a short period of time, therefore very likely they will be punished and the game award to South China, 3:0. We have seen the potential from another district side other than Tai Po, it really is the time to get things going. Only thing is that Mr. Brian Leung of HKFA will not play ball.

Only 152 people attended the game. Playing a game on a weekday afternoon is a big turn off. Mutual is simply insufficiently funded to run a football team. They want an afternoon game so they won't have to pay for floodlight charges. They would rather have fewer people attend the game than pay HK$4,000 (US$500 approx) for the floodlights. This kind of football team should not be admitted to the league.
