MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History Sort of along the lines of DMN's Yanks Abroad tracking in the YA Boards, I think it is time to have a dedicated tracking system of all the MLS Homegrown / Academy signings. Specifically, tracking the following: Date the player is officially signed by each MLS club Brief bio on each players background Tracking their play in MLS Any other relevant statistics I may evolve this into a basic blog as well to make it more permanent. The evolution of the academies is the single most impactful thing in Major League Soccer since the idea of Soccer Specific Stadiums (SSS). And I feel there is a void in tracking all of the homegrowns to better understand how successful they have been and will become. Thoughts/ideas???

Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History Much appreciated with this information... I forgot about a few of the newer signings that haven't even seen a training camp, nevermind a game yet. Gives me a good starting point for building out the website. Plan is to build short bios on each player. Once the season starts, I'll do a weekly tracking recap that will help show each player's progress as the season moves on. Also plan to be in contact with each of the FO's to get quotes from homegrown players and the FO's. The homegrown initiative is the most important endeavor MLS has instituted since the Soccer Specific Stadium. And it's something I feel deserves to be tracked.
That was also posted in a "Jack McBean" thread in the Youth National Teams forum. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1641260 However, it's not a done deal, yet. Let's wait and see if they actually sign him.
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History So, in terms of milestones: First to score in MLS: Bowen? First to score in Playoffs: TBD First to play in MLS Cup: TBD First to score in MLS Cup: TBD First international cap: Juan Agudelo First international goal: Juan Agudeo First to win match as GK: Bill Hamid First to win MLS ROY: Andy Najar other milestones?
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History I know Agudelo got an assist in the playoffs. Was it the first?
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History there is already a thread for this.... closed https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1544915

Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History I would add: first assists first clean sheet first mls all-star first mls first-x1 first league mvp you could probably go on and on, but those seem to make sense to add.
Is being identified as a home-grown player a two way thing - a club identifies a player as a home-grown talent, the player agrees to the designation and signs something? What if a player doesn't agree? Or are there different categories of home-grown talent? It seems there is a list of players that have come through a club's DAP who are identified in order to establish future rights vis-a-vis the club's ability to sign the player without having to go through the MLS draft. But then there are DAP players who are "signed", but are still playing in DAP? And then, during the recent MLS draft there were players who were signed as home-grown talents? I'm confused?
Flores was brought in prior to the homegrown initiative... therefore does not qualify as a homegrown player.
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History I setup a domain for this project... homegrownplayers.com Hopefully by the end of the week, I can start uploading the important information to get an accurate list going of all the homegrown's in MLS. And to start tracking their progress.
your certainly right, however i forgot to add a side note indicating that he was part of the Chivas USA academy team, likewise for Gerson Mayen
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History Am I the only one who thinks of something else whenever he reads "homegrown?"
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History now this depends on if he is referring to a starter or reserve.....he wasn't even dressed, or amongst the game day roster... not hating or anything, but it is questionable because he didn't do anything
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History He was present on the trophy platform (As was the whole team) and received a winners medal I believe. He was not on the 18-man game day squad though.
It's official now. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...y-sign-mcbean-as-newest-homegrown-player.html
Speaking of official, so is the Matt Kassel signing for the Red Bulls. http://www.nj.com/redbulls/index.ssf/2011/01/matt_kassel.html
If anyone has any local knowledge of academies in the different MLS markets, it would be very much appreciated. At this point looking for people to put together: Brief bios on each of the homegrown players Features / Interviews with homegrown players Anyone with experience using Joomla (I'm using that as the CMS for the website) ------------ This is a completely free website. I'm not putting this together for any monetary purpose. I feel the academy development is the most important thing in Major League Soccer today and the forseeable future. I think there is a void in the American soccer marketplace covering the homegrown players and the overall success of the initiative since it was implemented in 2008. I want this to be a completely educational website and a resource for those that want to follow the future stars of American soccer.
Re: MLS Home Grown Player Tracking / History He didn't make a single appearance over the course of the season, though.
This is the format I'm planning to use for the database... Thoughts / feedback much is appreciated. Tristan Bowen
Looks good to me. Maybe a career stats box by year? http://www.mlssoccer.com/stats has league and playoff stats by player by year. Reserve league and U.S. open cup stuff would probably take a lot more legwork though.
