Guy has to go. He hurts us every game. Too weak and too slow and unathletic for the MLS. Back to Europe where he is a star but with us a libility or accident waiting to happen. When Conde comes back Keel has to play instead of this clown. I do not see what Backless sees in this guy. He is Horrible!
Not happy with him so far to say the least. But when Conde is injured we have no other options. Unfortunately.
This is only kind of tangentially related, but does anyone notice how Ream seems to be playing better in the EPL than MLS? I think it's related to the same reason Holgersson hasn't been up to par--gotta be physical in this league--especially as a centerback.
Yeah, he has not impressed. babideas: Ream's first season was no fluke. Last year he was just caught up in the whirlpool that was our season.
The national soccer media, both USMNT and RBNY supporters, and I'm sure Tim himself had already decided before last season that he had to be playing in Europe. He was abysmal last year, and getting a transfer fee for him and getting him out of the locker room was a great move. This notion that MLS is a more physical league than the EPL or other European leagues is such a joke. It is a different league, less technical for sure. But not tougher. Holgersson is just getting used to new players, new tactics, new opponents and most of all new officiating (where blatant corners go down as goal kicks). He has shown good tackling ability, improving distribution, and good movement (he did very well catching, containing, and dispossesing Renteria late on, who is much faster than Holgersson). He has also shown a propensity to stay home, which is critical when you have a left back that bombs forward and doesn't track back. At the end of the season, I think he will stand out as a bright spot.
Sorry but it just shows Ream wasn't that bad last season and it was the whole team that was a mess. Ream was great in the playoffs. The PL is more physical than MLS.
my issue with holgersson is his upper ceiling being limited by poor coordination, strength, and foot skills. If he seemed an overly smart or fast player maybe he could compensate, but that isnt the case. Keel + Conde
Maybe we should try him out at RB?? I don't think that would be a solution since he's a slug and will probably get torched by the Shea's and the Convey's of this league.. I also think we should consider giving Raffa another go at CB.. Maybe he'll make a good pairing with his physical Mexican counter part and they'll have some type of chemistry he and Ream didn't? I would possibly give it a shot and I would start Ballouchy or Solli in place.. [LINEUP-4-4-2]Henry, Cooper, Lindpere, Dax, Ballouchy/Solli, Dane, Miller, Conde, Raffa, Solli/Lade, Meara[/LINEUP-4-4-2]
Rafa has value, but I think playing him in front of a back 4 (or heaven forbid back 3) is better than making him part of the back line.
Coul d he be worse than Holgerscrap??? Kills 2 birds with one stone. Gets Holgerscrap off the field and gets someone other than Rafa in Mid.
Holgersson will come good. People have to accept it will take him time to adapt to the MLS and his fellow defenders. Backe needs to keep playing him. Once he settles, him and Conde will be a quality pairing.
The nicknames suck. Between Ballshitty and the others in recent years where we try to put a slang word for a bowel movement and replace a part of a player's last name with it, just doesn't work. If you can't come up with quality, just use the player's name and an adjective. We'll get the same point.
Don't see why he gets a pass yet our youngins never did ie Holt, Lasseter, etc. Keel is better than this guy and he shows no ability athletically to have an advantage over keel. I'd rather give the other guy we got from Petke play even to give him a chance. Forgot his name right now but similar defender to Keel from minor soccer league.
Your analysis is as poor as your nicknaming ability. Keel is a great defender for us. Holgersson is moving better, positioning better and distributing better every game. He can also win headers. It is crucial to get him time now so he can develop.
My worry is that the guy simply looks uncoordinated, and that isn't going to change by having more time to adjust to the pace and culture of a new league. Even if he learns to read the other teams better, and becomes more organized with his teammates, I'm afraid that he's good for 1 or 2 major gaffes a game due to getting his own legs tangled.
MLS is NOT more physical than the EPL. This. Also the entire team couldn't defend against a U12 girls team. I agree we need to give him more time to adjust. However, it hasn't looked good at all and I still think we should keep that DP in our back pocket just in case. Miller is so infuriating sometimes. I don't think it matters who you put at LCB. Miller is always going to make them look like an a$$hole. Pretty much.
Get him time to develop and sit Keel once Conde is healthy so he can develop?? Are you kidding me??? Are you related to Halgersscrap? Keel looks like Marcelo Balboa compared to this guy.
I wrote in an earlier post that he was at fault on that corner. But you will never have a CB that doesn't concede a goal from time to time. Roy Miller was at fault for that goal anyway. Holgersson's towering header was the play that started Henry's first goal sequence.
