Hopefully he's referring to the rest of Bolton's season, not the Gold Cup or beyond.

    Ugh. #@%dammit.

It's frustrating how slowly the world of injury news operates in the Premier League.

I know you're being optimistic, but this is what a lot of people said last year too. He was able to recover in time for the World Cup, but not with enough time to get back his form and be a key player in the team.

I fear the situation may be similar this year.

Is he going to be another DMB with constant injury problems? He has a pretty slight build. I wonder if he would be better suited to the Spanish league, where there aren't as many aggressive challenges.

At any rate, I hope it's just a cut and not ligament damage.

It could still just be a cut. I lacerated my knee playing soccer - literally 180 degree cut around the front of the knee (had 30+ staples along w/ an unknown amount of subcutaneous stitches). It took me three months to recover - healing plus building strength back up. Of course part of that time was due to the fact that the ER doc used staples in lieu of stitches in some areas and when the staples were pulled the wound opened back up.

Hopefully Stu hasn't had any structural damage, but his tweet doesn't sound good for sure.

Nigel de Jong broke his leg with a ridiculous challenge and now he has suffered a cut on the knee from some Johnnie what's his name with an equally rash challenge. That's hardly being fragile.

    An ex-teammate too.

PS. Daily Mirror says, "no ligament damage, no broken bones" but a deep gash regardless.

Seems like Holden is well liked and well known, he's gotten wishes from Landon (Duh), Rio Ferdinand and Jack Wilshire. Making people turn there heads Stu! :)

It is funny to compare it to the NFL where you can get updates on guys' knees 24/7.

Incredibly slow news. At this point he might have it fixed before we know what it is.

My heart goes out to Holden, you never want to see any player no matter who they play for be out for so long. Holden is the one US player that I like to see play.
    Good luck to him

Re: Holden out for a hero: Stu at Bolton

I was expecting about a year, so that's a possible silver lining for me. It kind of reminded me of when Will Allen of Ohio State speared Willis McGahee with his helmet in the college handball national championship back in '03. Only Stu's knee didn't reverse positions like McGahee's from what I saw. But the force was massive. If they aren't being overly optimistic again like with initial reports, that's not a blown ACL. Maybe a blown MCL or ACL and MCL partial tears. The most important thing for me is this is something Stu can fully recover from. Not the amount of time he'll be sidelined, unless we're talking about years.

Re: Holden out for a hero: Stu at Bolton

it is not a break .... and there were 26 stitches to close the wound and prevent infection...

but it refers to "surgery" which tells me that there was ligament damage.

Re: Holden out for a hero: Stu at Bolton

He's small for both the levels where he's been injured but plays with a lot of heart. Great combination to get the best out of his abilities....bad combination to stay healthy. Maybe don't go to the opposite extreme like Donovan where he's very reticent about making 50/50 challenges, but he has to learn not to put his foot in on some situation so he lives to fight another day. Otherwise risk being met by reckless butchers.
