To be truthful, I root for any peruvian club team in international tournaments, but most of them are losers. Face it. Alianza - Never won an internation title, has never won anything except for a cheesy national tournament, LA U - no international cups, nothing, cheesy national tournament title, Cristal - At least made it to the fina in copa libertadores, Cienciano - at least copa sudamericana champs, recopa champs.

I think this year we (Alianza) will have decent competition, with Universitario putting on good performances lately and Sporting Cristal being a constant threat. But I wish teams like Sport Boys and Melgar could bring back their 'glory' days so we could have un campeonato mas renido like the '98 Clausura.

I represent LA "U" but Sporting Cristal's more consistent performances in these later years have won a place in me...

    True.

Cienciano must be the only team with 2 international titles and 0 local ones.

    theres the 2 popular ones
    alianza(the oldest)
    universitario

theres the younger one(distant third in popularity)
    sporting cristal

    theres the one from callao
    sport boys

theres the big ones from outside of lima
    cienciano from cuzco
    melgar from arequipa

id say those 6 teams are the most popular ones playing in the first division today
