Herculez Gomez's final stats for Puebla during the Clausura:
    6 Starts, 7 Substitutions, 655 minutes, 10 G, 2A

NOTE: My numbers are from soccernet, so they may not be entirely accurate.

He's playing in a second division Mexican league--that has to be somewhat comparable to playing on a USL division I team although I am sure the Mexican second division is somewhat tougher than the USL. That certainly doesn't qualify him for a spot on the USMNT because he left a higher level of play and is tearing up a lower level league. You guys can't be serious about this.

I know many will want to jump down your throat, but I will politely correct you.
Puebla is in the Mexican First Division with the likes of Pachuca, Chivas, America, Cruz Azul, Pumas and the like it is not in the 2nd division. And the Mexican league on whole is better than MLS.

lets not start with this argument now, haha.

The point being, they are apples and oranges as far as playing style goes, and Mexican teams have a lot more money, so a logical conclusion would be to say he is in the better league, even though the USMNT style is closer to MLS than Primera.

This will have to be updated after Sunday, but check this out:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwD6lfim0TM"]YouTube- Recap of Herculez Gomez Goals[/ame]

Also, it seemed like Herculez picked up two yellow cards on Sunday. From the look of his post-scoring celebrations, they could have been for excessive celebration.

His 2nd yellow was for diving. A very soft yellow by all accounts, and it wouldn't be surprising if Puebla appealed it. If not, though, he won't play the last game of the season.

Gomez is happy for the goals but sad about the expulsion

"I'm very proud of the way we played. The group never stopped running and 'Chelis' referred to this when he said to play like Puebla should play. Also, I'm happy for the two goals and a little sad because I can't play, but apart from that I'm going to continue supporting my teammates from the sideline to get more points against Toluca."

"It's difficult to be a referee. The truth is that I wouldn't want to be one and I'm not going to judge him. I just saying that the defender (Cervantes) pulled me, he knocked me off balance. The linesman signaled in my favor but the ref sent me off. The rest is out of my hands."

"I'm very happy because the intention was to use closed tactics and the goals arrived. I'm also happy because we all did everything right, and we owed the fans a win because we had a bad season at home and that cost us the qualification."

Herc continuing to show his class. That is probably the best way to say what needs to be said while avoiding everything that doesn't. Good for him, and those were 2 very good goals.

    He's 28 already.

    His future is now.

A (surprising) 10 goal half-season scorer in the Mexican League can probably get a three year $5M guaranteed deal in Mexico or Spain.

    That's what he should pursue.

Has their been any specific clubs identified that were interested in him? I wonder what he meant by "you wouldn't believe me if I told you"

I wouldn't believe him if he said Man City. So, Man City.

EDIT: Come to think of it, maybe that would be their answer to ManU signing Chicharito.

    He's not... yet.

If Gomez scores two goals in the WC, he'll be eligible for a world permit.
