A few quotes from Gomez in a recent article:

    Herculez Gomez is relaxed
"Of course I'd really like to be a starter. That way I'd achieve another one of my goals in the Mexican league. But it's not something that's up to me to decide."

"Finishing as the top goalscorer looks like a long shot to me, since my competitors all play for 90 minutes each game. But I'm going to apply myself and God willing, good things will happen."

That's it, I'm off the Gomez train! If he can't score playing 90' he's of no use to the MNT! What a flash in the pan!

Re: Club America in for Herculez Gomez

Doesn't every striker with more than 5 goals eventually end up with America, only to sign a fat contract, sit on the bench for a year and then be loaned out to Santos or Atlante for the rest of the contract?

Nexaxa would be a more approapriate example, they are about to return to the First Division. It was the graveyard of America and San Luis, which is why they were relegated.

I've merged the CA rumor into the general Gomez thread for now. I think this can work well for the increased attention he's justifiably been getting.

Well, Necaxa played in the same stadium before their move.

I still remember those Ivo Basay- Nacho Ambriz-Ricardo Pelaez teams under Manuel Lapuente.

and Garcia Aspe, Alex Aguinaga (the best Ecuadoran player of all time not named Alberto Spencer), Luis Hernandez, Sergio Zarate.

They were supposed to be are unwanted players and they ended up being the best team of the decade

As far as Herculez goes, everyone else in the top of the scoring charts are linked with us also. Just speculation at this point.

    Yep, even Cuau

every goal Mexico scored in France 98 came from a Necaxa player and we were coached by Lapuente

Sounds like the offers are starting to roll in for Herc's services:

The Las Vegas native has gone from MLS afterthought to wanted man, with teams in Mexico, MLS and Europe interested in his services when his Puebla deal expires next month.

“If I told you who some of the teams were, you wouldn’t believe me,” he told Yahoo! Sports in a telephone conversation this week. “It is amazing to think of how quickly things have developed. It has been a quick and crazy journey but I’m loving the ride.”

Oh, the benefits of short-term contracts.

Thats a good article there on yahoo -- I'm wondering what teams fall in the "you wouldn't believe" category in Herc's eyes -- shall we speculate in the way that BigSoccer only can? :D

I'll go first with a couple punts from Europe:
    -Villareal
    -Wolfsburg
    -Ajax
    -Benfica

I went big but all of those I "wouldn't believe" ;) but maybe he thinks we wouldn't believe LA Galaxy or something

BTW - I noticed Greg Seltzer posted on NSC that Herc said interest from Club America was "news to him."

Re: Herculez Gomez to Puebla FC

Well, the problem with that article is that it's completely unsourced.

It says that Club America is interested in Gomez and even uses a direct quote, but it fails to say who those claims are coming from.

I think it was someone from Club America who asked him if he was interested. I read something in Spanish but I'm not sure:confused:

Gomez scores two more goals(!), but is sent off after a second yellow for apparently diving. He now is tied for the league lead in goals after starting only a few matches. He really needs to be looked at pre-World Cup, period

Where will Gomez go next? Given his amazing form, it's gotta be someplace decent in Europe.

Would be a notable omission on Bob's part. Buddle and Herc- the two big question marks right now.

the best thing will be to move to a "big" team in Mexico (america, toluca, cruz azul) before moving to europe, but it will be a good thing, he can develop more has a player, & he can play international matches in "copa libertadores" where a big european team can pick him up, otherwise he can move to europe & ride the bench or to the mls & disappear, again. the only problem is his age, 28, so moving to a big team in Mexico will be the best option or stay with Puebla FC why not!!
