This is another one of my crazy ideas. Aloha stadium is crap, but i think is being renovated. the Hawaiian islands would make for huge travel costs and don't have a very high population. however, over 23,000 people were at the final of the Pan-Pacific championship in 2008 with over 15,000 at the semifinals. and at the Hawaiian islands invitational this year more that 10,000 were at the final of the tournament with over 7,000 at the semis. maybe in 10-20 years? possible it could become a permanent pre-season facility like Tucson.
Okay, i kind of knew there was no chance ever anyways. but what if the MLS used 4 or so permanent Pre-Season sites. Hawaii could be one along with Tucson, and maybe Atlanta, San Antonio, or others.
I'm fairly certain that they (MLS) are locked in to Orlando and Tucson. Southern California and the Carolinas also host pre-season tourneys as well. With just 19 teams, I can't really see them using more than three major "spring training" facilities. With that being said, It sure is not going to be Hawaii!
I think Hawaii would be better off starting its own local circuit of somewhere from 6-10 clubs from across the island. Obviously not professional, but it's a place to start...
If they could find an Australian Billionaire that owned his own airline, Hawaii, would make on hell of an away trip!
