AHHHHHH COPA!!!! This has always been my favorite tournament in Brasil, with the addition of the libertadores teams it is now perfect =) I love giant slayers! and I can't wait to see who is going to be the next Paulista! and gives me a chance to see my family squabble over paysandu, remo and this year desportivo ferroviaria!
But about my Vasco.. I'm a little worried about playing Rezende, they have been pretty good over the past 2 years in the Carioca. Being the 5th best in Rio
Desportiva is going to do the same thing every Capixaba team does -- exit in the first round. I wish there was a good enough team from ES to make a respectable run.
These should be pretty intense. Naútico X Sergipe - SE Vila Nova - MG X Bahia Paraná X São Bernardo - SP Resende- RJ X Vasco Novo Hamburgo - RS X Joinville - SC
There are a lot of "small" big clubs in Brazil, I don't understand how a team which has a cult following like Paysandu, Remo, Santa Cruz among other big Nordeste teams have a hard time getting funds for their team. Ferroviaria doesn't even keep their team active through the whole season, i don't understand that at all. With all of the incentives the government gives to football clubs in Brazil plus the local money (which the ES has tons now) how can a team not have a serious program running is just weird.
If you follow ES football, it happens all the time. Tulio Maravilha was on 'meu' Vilavelhense last year and they got relegated to the second division. Now they just announced that they won't play the second division because they didn't find a sponsorship to help fund the team. Jaguaré or whatever you want to call them at this point has undergone three name changes the last decade and that all is because of money. Rio Branco, the leading title winner and traditional club from ES was relegated. Crazy. Savio, ex-Fla, had a project for a football club in Vila Velha a while back but I haven't heard anything about it since. He probably changed his mind.
Yup i saw that, and then you have Aracruz filling the stands and getting money from the city but still not able to sustain a team for the whole year. Vila Velhense was one of the teams I was looking at for their financial status, they are in one of the highest GDP per capita cities of Brazil and can't fund a team, just sad.
I'm also curious why this bigger clubs in the northeast and north (in terms of supporters) can't afford the players to stay in the hunt for a brasileirao spot. Even Brasilia, I understand its a very new city where most of its residents support other teams, but these people dont have the desire to go to the park and watch live games? No team has been able to stand out and gather a following?
One word: mismanagement. Brasiliense at one point was using public money and they reached the first division, but after that, they've been in a free fall.
My family from my dad's side is from Belem, Remo x Paysandu is great! they fill the stands and stop the city when they play. Internacional x Remo in Belem will likely have over 30k in attendance.
Teams from Rio in general should travel more to the Nordeste. Once the stadium in Manaus is completed Vasco should play games there from time to time, against small clubs they know they'll win. Because they will sell out that stadium 100% of the time.
I remember when Remo played the Serie C in 2005 and had an avg of 30k in the stadium... and STILL couldn't get money to keep their team relevant.
Tickets are dirt cheap for Serie C. Bahia used to pack the old Fonte Nova when they were in Serie B and look at their attendance numbers from last year. They didn't even consistently fill up Pituacu.
They made 3.5 million Reais in 6 games between Leão vs Papão. That's an avg of 583k per game in ticket sales for those games alone. Thats about 20 Reais per ticket, and because we know most people go as half off, the actual price was likely 40 reais per ticket, that's normal pricing.
$20 reais tickets, classico tickets $30 reais. Just got the info from my cousin, he goes to Papao games.
I paid $15 for serie D last time I went and 20 for serie B. But the serie D game had only about 50 people in the stadium =( sad
Which team? Botafogo-PB define preços de ingressos para decisão da Série D 15 reais for the FINAL. Botafogo has a pretty good fanbase in their state.
I went to Vitoria da Conquista games for Serie D and Vitoria games for Serie B. I spend 3 months in Bahia a couple of years ago. Conquista had a terrible year, while Vitoria was having a great year.
I just saw that Portuguesa got into the Copa do Brasil for winning the second division of the Paulista. How is that even fair? How can the Paulista second division give a Copa do Brasil place instead of giving it to a team in the Paulista first division?
http://globoesporte.globo.com/futebol/copa-do-brasil/ Dates are out I have to wait until April for the first Vasco game!! that kind of sucks.
