Honestly, i think a lot of the pressure he has felt at Barca he puts on himself because he's a native son of the club. It's like taking over your father's business, only in this case the business is also the religion of your country. Other clubs will be high-stress jobs, but they'll just be jobs to him without all the other emotions mixed in.
Thanks Pep for everything during his tenure. Looking forward for next season under Tito. The club won 4 Champions league under 3 different coach so I'm still confident whoever takes over team will remain strong as ever.
There has been a long time speculation with Pep being the natural successor for Sir Alex at Man U., Ferguson has stated he has about 2 more seasons left, and this could open the door for this move. Pep has long been an admirer of Man U and Sir Alex. It would be interesting if this came to fruition after a year or two long sabbatical. Funny thing is Mourinho was considered the successor for awhile, but the board at Man U found his antics too much for the reputation Man U needed to sustain. The biggest question I am left with after today's news isn't related to Guardiola, but does Tito even own a suit? Let alone any thing aside from a warm up suit to wear on the bench.
Much respect, the success he has had is simply inhumane. While many question his abilities as a coach, I think he is more talented than he gets credit for and I think he will prove that should he take on another job away from Spain. TBH, being a Madrid fan, I am relieved he is going to leave even though I think its a season too late or too soon, but I will take it You guys think he might fancy the Spanish NT?
From Sid Lowe in The Guardian: He has reached four consecutive Champions League semi-finals and won 13 trophies. ... there is still a Copa del Rey final to come at the end of the season. Win that and he would have won 14 of 18 competitions. There have been three consecutive league titles and two European Cups in just four years. And before that there was a league title as coach of Barcelona B. "Success" barely does it justice. It was about more than just the success, too, it was about the style. Barcelona were different. >>> Wow. I'm really stunned. While not a dedicated supporter of the club, I think that team under Pep has been the best team of the modern era, and will challenge for best team ever as the years go on. Wish he could have slugged it out for a few more years, but all respect to the man for his out-of-this-world accomplishments and his commitment to playing a beautiful brand of football.
I think after 1 year Bielsa is going to be the one instead of Pep returning. I don't think Tito can handle all the pressure of being Barca's coach for long considering the stress already of his condition. It would not be healthy for him.
I actually don't want anyone that comes to disrupt anything or impose his ideas over this Barca ones. We just need a person who continues what is already there (the model, philosophy, players, etc). The Spanish NT is an example, Luis Aragones built everything ,he did all the hard work..when his cycle ended Vicente del Bosque just needed to continue it without doing much.
So many good memories, but I think my favorite moment was still the first CL final vs Man U, when everyone and their dog just assumed Man U were going to roll us over. The pre-game show on ITV was one long coronation for SAF. And then we put in a masterclass, totally dominating the last 80 minutes of the game.
Thanks for the comments, but I think you mean inhuman...inhumane would be the adjective to apply to your eye gouging "mister"
That was my thought as the one place it may make sense for him to go. Specially if he is looking for less day-to-day pressure.
I am sure that's just the England media speculating. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried. But I don't see it happening.
I saw the whole press conference, and it sounded like a sabbatical more than something totally permanent. The whole narrative was that he is burnt out, not that he wants a new challenge elsewhere. I'm with Lucho and others thinking the appointment of Tito feeds that theory. No one else but Tito would step aside for Pep's return, or would welcome the occasional advice from Pep next season. Think of how Cruyff continued (and continues) to meddle from outside the club after he left, usurping the authority of the current coach. I don't know about Tito's health situation after his cancer treatment earlier this season, but to any doubters: remember that during his absence this season we put in visibly poorer performances that ultimately cost us La Liga. Tito is as vital to this team as Pep, so I think we're not losing much. I wonder who Tito's right-hand man will be, though...
