Just to put in the proper context, I speak from the experience of attending MLS games in stadiums in Chicago, New York and Kansas City and spectator behavior generally. I'm not speaking about cherry-picked posts on an anonymous message board. Making the argument that people may be polite in the stadium but they're really mostly racist xenophobes because of a few random, anonymous posts on BigSoccer is a level of paranoia that can't be reasoned with.

Your post is just one of many of one of the biggest myths out there which is how classy and respectable MLS and US fans are and how classless everybody else is. And yet the board is constantly filled with examples that shows it's total BS and that like typical thing in the US, it seen with some and not with others. Rogers may not get it for being gay and a black player will be defended when he gets n worded but when it's Mexico or any latin team, or when it's Ghana or any other country, the true colors are shown. And like Nacho said, when it wasn't modded it was a lot worse. Then that really flew. So you can go on about how you're are so much better than the brits but the fact is , the difference between the groups is that they say it in the stadium and not wait to do it on a computer screen.

I for one believe most of europe (in general) is less homophobic than the US... The MLS fan base is a small group of people which may be more accepting than the football fan base in europe, and that is all that matters for an MLS soccer player. But to make a determination of England as a country vs the US, not sure that is fair, redneck and soccer don't mix much, if they did I'm sure there would be a different opinion.

Given the gay bashing incidents among MLS fans last season... I don't think there should be a whole lot of confidence that MLS would be the kumbaya setting for the first outing. However, I will say this... mainstream America has a great capacity for change when it comes in the form of entertainment & junk food advertising... given that a USA Network show recently did an episode on some Quarterback on a mythical NFL team coming out etc.,... maybe in a we are a few years away from seeing that as a reality in the States.. in the meantime I could see the Outlaws & the other ghey Barras taking the ******** chant to a whole new level of realness.

I dont know, it might just be me, but I feel that the mod stepped in just in time to save face on the fan base. I'd like to think that the mod doesnt share the same critical thinking as him.
