I will never understand how in the ******** does a team having a net worth of players exceeding USD 350 Million loose to a bunch of unknown Mexicans without their best player Dos Santos, and in a final of a tournament never won by the Brazukas. I can understand that Mexico has our number, and I cannot remember one match that Brasil beat Mexico, but come on now.

Not really surprised, but one cannot help being in a state of shock. I really believed that this was the year, but once again………I think it is just our destiny not to win the Gold.

I have stated that the strength of the Mexican marking and shutting down of space will cause us problems, and what happens in the first 25 seconds? And the second goal, how can you allow the Mexican forward to roam from the end line to the middle with NOBODY marking him until he is found all alone to head it in.

And I don’t know what is worse, having Brasil loose, or watching several hundred Mexicanos celebrating in my face in a Chicago North side Pub and being taunted by Mexicanos every street I walk down in Chicago.

I’m sorry but this coach has got to go. Let us see how our CBF reacts to this one.

- early minutes....US struggles to find its legs, but nothing too too dangerous from Mexico, One half-chance
- mid 1st half......US comes into flow of game and then BAM! a classic Donovan/Beasley combination from a decade ago (space cleared out by a heady Gomez run) and US is up 1-0 on Mexico surprisingly after only 22 minutes
- Mexico presses and creates a couple good chances, but US giving as good as it gets...with some clever attacks down the flank from Beitashour and Fabian
- Halftime 1-0
- 2nd half, Mexico comes out with double barrels......hits the woodwork on one chance....we bend but we don't break
- mid-way through...US player is taken down in the box....NO CALL....wah???
- lull period from 65-80 minute where there is real restlessness in Mexican crowd..they can't believe score, but keep expecting Mexico to come back
- JK puts on lots of subs, lots of fresh legs..this adds to less fluidity in the game
- In the 83 minutes, Terrance Boyd hits a shot from the 2nd row (called a Sunday shot in German) that catch the Mexican keeper offguard and rockets into the upper corner...2-0 for US!
- US sees out the game with Mexico suprisingly impotent in the end. In retrospect, Mexico was too confident going into this game (post Olympic high lasted too long) and JK gets the mix exactly right between veterans leadership and young players with plenty to prove. US leaves the egos aside and play for the shirt.

I had an all-day commitment that day, and I DVR’d the match on both the local Latino network and NBC. As I drove, I saw on my phone that Mexico was up 1-0 within a minute. I had a bad feeling and felt it wouldn’t happen. When Hulk came in, I realized once and for all that Mano Menezes’ player selection had been fatally flawed, as many of you fellow BigSoccer Brasileiros had pointed out. I later read Oscar barely missed what would’ve been a miraculous equalizer, and I have not bothered to watch any highlights of the match. I have not accessed my DVR recordings, and will delete them today.

To the Mexicans who came here to gloat and who repped posts trash-talking us Brazilians: savor your victory, because this will be the last time your teams will win anything for a long time other than tournaments at the youth level or beyond the confines of CONCACAF. I am aware your team will be in my country next year for the Confederations Cup, but Mexico will not win it. The only senior-level FIFA-sanctioned tournament your team won happened on home soil – yes, against an understrength Brazil who scored three goals on you – weeks after Brazil defeated you en route to one of its recent Copa América titles. In the World Cup, the only time you reached the quarterfinals was on home soil in 1986 – every other time since then, you couldn’t get past the round of 16. This if we don’t mention 1990, when you were BANNED from the competition for fielding an overage player in a youth tournament.

You will not win the 2014 World Cup. I will readily recognize here that under current conditions, Brazil does not look like the title contender every soccer fan on Earth expects it to be all the more since the Cup will be hosted on Brazilian soil. But Mexico will not only fall short in 2014, it will finish below Brazil.

I find it ironic that you Mexicans amongst all Latin American soccer nations could be so disrespectful to us. Mind you I’m not even questioning the merits of your win. Your team played hard and well, and your manager tactically deployed your team sufficiently well to compensate for Giovanni dos Santos’ absence. But it is rather surprising that fans from a soccer nation which has never been a top-tier contender, never seen as a major “power,” never ranked as a “potência,” would come here and gloat the way you have – and given that Brazilian soccer has historically been the object of affection and admiration among Mexicans. I still remember 1999 Confeds Cup TV coverage of how Mexican fans warmly welcomed Brazil’s NT, cheered them on during practice, and cheered for them during Brazil’s matches (except the final against Mexico, of course).

If anything I could have expected fans from the Argentina forums to come here and mock us (and they probably have, as I haven’t gone there lately). But other than the most stubborn and ignorant Argentines, even they wouldn’t disrespect us because they’re aware of the richness of our tradition, and they haven’t forgotten that until the first match after the 2010 World Cup, Brazil had a string of victories over them in friendlies, World Cup qualifying, and FIFA/CONMEBOL tournaments. The Argentines are in the middle of a 30-year-plus senior-level NT title drought, but despite their rivalry with us they don’t disrespect teams who have done better than them (read: BRAZIL). They have at least won the World Cup. How many has Mexico won?

You Mexicans are doing great as of late; I respect Mexican soccer (clubs and country). However, I can’t help but consider the attitude of many of you as the equivalent of somebody who finds sudden wealth and doesn’t know how to handle it.

Congratulations on the gold medal – for quite a while to come, it will stand as the pinnacle of your national teams’ achievements. Given that your senior NT has been owned by Team USA of all people, you guys really shouldn’t be all that brash. Brazil regrets this undesired result, but despite this setback and the potential instability that may result if CBF sacks Mano Menezes, we have the means and material to rebuild, rebound, and play the next World Cup as a serious contender. It is far likelier that Brazil will win it than you will.

Talking (still) about the friendly, highlight of this generation of nad fans.

No shame in accepting they do better at snipping talent abroad than they do at developing it. WOW, just WOW Too bad none of the countries they scout is the one where this Centrie is from, as I am sure he is trying to find a way to appease his hatred through the USMNT.
