Hammarby did win by 2, but Schuler didn't appear to score. http://www.flashscores.co.uk/football/sweden/superettan/
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcAdhQc2v7k"]Brage - Hammarby 2012 Highlights - YouTube[/ame] The game wasn't as intense and entertaining as on monday against Brommapojkarna because Brage seemed to have a pretty set gameplan to play defence and counterattack. To me Hammarby was clearly the better team though, except maybe for small patches of the first half. Once they got the lead they pretty much controlled the rest of the game, so it was a fair result.
Glad to see they're off to a good start. I would think the fans would be happy. Can anyone dig up and translate some of the bulletin board comments? Thanks.
Guess not. Another site had him as the goal scorer on the first goal, which I thought was weird because he doesn't start. Edit: after watching the goals, it looks like he did start, but didn't score.
He did start but he didn't score. But he had quite a good game like the whole Hammarby team who were closer 3-0 rather then the home team scoring anything.
Well, reading their forum it seems they are ecstatic with some (healthy?) illusions of grandeur mixed in If you wanted more info on how they are feeling about Berhalter specifically then I can say in general that they're pretty close to worshipping him at this point.
They had better assign some body guards to Castro-Tello, because if he gets hurt they are gong to be in trouble.
Yeah, in general the biggest threat to Hammarbys promotions are possible injuries to their starting eleven. The TV-commentator actually spoke in todays broadcast about how much depth Hammarby has which I couldn't disagree more with! To me there's a huge drop in quality between their starters and bench players except for the forward position.
Here you have the swedish fans forum for Hammarby translated through google, it's far from perfect but perhaps enough? http://translate.google.com/transla.../www.svenskafans.com/fotboll/bajen/forum.aspx
What good fortune for Gregg Berhalter! He's got the team playing with the right mentality. Still some things to correct (for example, he mentioned they have to improve in defending the counterattack), but overall a great start to the season. I wonder how his Swedish is coming along. He speaks German and Dutch, so maybe Swedish isn't so hard. Just add a bit of lutfisk.
What the ********??????????? Several of y'all read this and I'm the first to comment on it????? I lol'd.
Speaking of American coaches...would someone like Jason Kries be able to get a job in say the Segunda division in Spain? If Berhalter can get this job and do well, why aren't more American coaches given chances? I know it has a lot to do with connections and the Swedish second division is not exactly the Segunda division of Spain, but still. Ole could probably be handed a job in the Championship after one good year in Norway.
Gregg has a lot of playing experience outside the US. And obviously the Hammarby owned by AEG thing contributed a lot. Jason Kreis is probably not known in Europe. Meanwhile former YAs probably have decent chances to coach abroad. For example Joe Enochs is working on his coaching licenses in Germany.
I think Kries has a lot of potential as a coach. I would also love to see him have success for selfish reasons. I played for the same club he did and he was my "coach" at a soccer camp when i was in 7th grade, I think it was his freshman or sophomore year at Duke. On second thought, I turned out to be a crap player and didn't learn anything from him, so he's garbage.
Gregg suffered the first blemish to his managerial record today. Hammarby could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Varbergs.
Yeah, I think this was Hammarbys worst performance so far this season. Varberg was better until they got a man sent off with 30 minutes left of the game. Good thing that Hammarby managed to get the equalizer though so that the positive momentum continues. Their next game is against the club who are in last place with only one point from their first five games, so a good chance for Hammarby to get back to their winning ways.
Yeah, from a results point of view it's been a great start for Berhalter. Here's the table after five games played: Code: Hammarby 5 4 1 0 9- 3 13 Öster 5 4 1 0 13- 7 13 ------------------------------------------------------- Jönköpings Södra 5 3 2 0 13- 7 11 ------------------------------------------------------- Assyriska 5 3 0 2 11- 8 9 Brommapojkarna 5 3 0 2 6- 7 9 Ängelholms FF 5 2 2 1 8- 6 8 Halmstad 5 2 1 2 6- 4 7 Landskrona BoIS 5 2 1 2 8- 8 7 Varbergs BoIS 5 2 1 2 5- 5 7 Ljungskile SK 5 2 1 2 5- 6 7 IK Brage 5 2 0 3 7-10 6 Trelleborg 5 1 1 3 7- 9 4 ------------------------------------------------------- Falkenberg 5 1 1 3 5- 7 4 Umeå FC 5 1 1 3 6- 9 4 ------------------------------------------------------- Degerfors IF 5 1 0 4 5-10 3 IFK Värnamo 5 0 1 4 3- 9 1 I also picked this up from a Hammarby blog where the writer spoke to Berhalter at yesterdays U21 game, thought it was pretty interesting:
