http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/5141866.stm Can anyone shed any light on this? What exactly is the suspension for? Will it be sorted out soon?
Perhaps it has to do with the new government laws on the running of the Greek league. They are changing the structure of the league, and by they I mean the FA, and the Ministry of Sport with support of most of the clubs of the A'Ethniki (Greek league). I'm not 100% sure if this is the reason, but this is absolute bullshit by FIFA. While Italians lie steal dope and rob their way in Italy and Europe they wish to pick on Greece for trying to clean up the game?
heheheheh theres nothing to be sorted out what bullshit, what a picture the euro2004 champions! thats what they dont want to see again from greece. hehehehehe
Crock of shit. FIFA have had the edict against governmental interference in football since its very early days and this has been the one law they've constantly upheld. Kenya were suspended some time ago and Greece have been warned may times about this and were even briefly suspended on this issue some time ago. Most or all other federations in the world - and there are more affiliated members of FIFA than the UN - have no problem following this rule, but Greece does? Time to get its house in order and nothing that happens in Italy will have any bearing on this.
The FA President is waging a war against a personal enemy the Minister of Sport. Now at first I thought this was about the creating of the new 'Superleague' but I was wrong. This is about some obscure law created some time ago.
By the way, regarding Italy. They fix matches, dope players, and FIFA allows them to remain with no sanctions? As for government interference, how's the Prime Minister owning a club count? And his man at AC Milan also being the high up in the Italian FA. Conflict of interets? Is this non interference? It's July 4. 2 years to the day Greece won Euro 2004. And what an insult by FIFA. They knew what they were doing. The deadline is in 11 days. This may be a good thing, but FIFA is a bastard organization. Turkish players and staff were beating on Swiss players and they appeal and get a slap on the wrist. Italy is ********ed up beyond belief but they won't involve themselves. But yes let's pick on Greece.
Not by the Italian FA, and when dicovered it is punished by the Italain FA also not an FIFA issue. What a PM do as a private citizen is not govermnet interference. Well not that I want to defend FIFA, but this has nothing to do with picking on Greece it has to do with defending their powerbase. Corruption is not threatening FIFA’s power (heck, my guess a lot of their top men is involved in it someway), direct government power or involvement in a national FA is a direct threat to the power of the national FA's and thus FIFA’s power.
i heard this on the radio last night and i was gutted for you guys!! i hope this can be resolved because if this happened to my country i would be in tears, good luck greece
What Italian FA? Clearly there exists already conflicts of interest and corruption on a massive scale to the point of 6 out of the last 10 lague championships are now in doubt, possibly 8 out of 10. I notice Juventus on your profile btw. Anyhow what control is this? I didn't give a rats arse before because I don't care about Italy, but when FIFA writes BS about government control when one of Europe's major leagues is a mafia organization I get mad. There is no control in Italy. Yet they allow them to continue. WHATEVER!!!! So tell me, a nation like China, do you believe there isn't real interference here? What happend is that the FA head dragooned FIFA to help him in his power fight. It's none of FIFA's business to be honest. What FIFA needs to understand is that football is a business, and since the Greek state has given out many millions of Euros to clubs etc over the years they have a right to control how the business is done. If the Sports Ministry believes a ref appointment is suspicious, why shouldn't they be able to mandate another choice? Is this wrong?
What the Geeek FA needs to understand that if that's truely the case, then they will be suspended from FIFA forever. How come 206 of 207 countries can get it right and Greece must have special rules just for them?
As I metioned before, while FIFA is publicly calims to fight corruption they do not put ther heart into it so as long as the national FA is punshing any cases dicovered FIFA is content, they do not really expect the national FA's to search for it. No, but since they do not do it openly it is hard for FIFA to act and FIFA are not losing face by China challenging FIFA's authority Who controlls football IS FIFAS business. That pretty much why it was craeted and defenig that power has been FIFA's main priority for very long. Not according to FIFA. You may put how much or little you want into your football, the controll will still in the end be at the FIFA and the natinonal FA. Yes, if there is a crime involved the Sports Ministry should prove it and have the appointee or appointer on trial. If not he is encrousing on the FA's power (and thus FIFA) NB! Please note that I am not as such defending FIFA, they could IMHO be greatly improved and are far from free from corruption (with that I means they are probably rather corrupt). I just had to protest the ridiculous claims that FIFA is going after Greece out of grudge or picking on them in particular. FIFA has always been quick to defend FIFA power and the FA’s independence from government, and far less quick to fight corruption. So to act harsh on this is just what anyone with half a brain would expect FIFA to do.
Italian FA officials are involved aren't they? Conflicts of interest do exist and have don't they? It's corrupt from the FA on down, and FIFA is silent. Shhhhhhhhh. No one challenged anyone. Greece, Poland and Portugal were all warned yet only Greece was suspended. This seems now because the FA head went crying to Blatter to help him out in a power struggle. Is FIFA able to gurantee fair matches in Greece? NO. In the last 10 seasons 9 times Olympiakos have won it. Does this seem legit? The funny thing is before the end of this season the Greek FA only had jurisdiction over the National team, and NOT the league. EPAE (the association of club presidents) ran the league. Not until the new Superleague was decided on and the new money from sports betting being distrubuted amongst the clubs (it wasn't until now) did the Greek FA get ansy. It's about money.
The Minister of Sport has tabled amendmants to the law and he will be sending a letter to Blatter informing him of the changes. Look at my previous link. It wil take some time though for it to be finalized and reviewed. http://news.ert.gr/en/7/19151.asp
That IS the challenege, FIFA's power comes from the power of the national FA's, if you have the national FA's sign of on it you can get away with it. If you can't come to an agreement with it you better stay away from fotball or be prepared to get on FIFA's shit list. In it is FIFA (and thus the national FA's) who have the trumphs not the govermnet when it comes to fotball. Yes, thats is a very common setup. Who supplied the referes? if that was not the FA that would be a bit unusual.
You reckon that the friendly between England and Greece will still be on? Its scheduled for mid-August but it might be called off if it isn't sorted out. Would be a shame cos I was looking forward to seeing the Greek players, especially Samaras being a City supporter.
alan d just hearing the news on tv here, there has been a meeting with fifa and our minister of sports, as it seems everything will come to a finish. and do hope we have that friendly match as you see we are testing our new national team and samaras ..any news i will inform has pre season training started?for m city?
So even though the Greek FA knew about this problem since 1996, FIFA somehow picked July 4th? What difference does it make? How is it an insult?
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8951162#post8951162 Parliament has passed the amendmants. It will be sent to FIFA for review and the ban should be lifted because all that was asked for has been done.
Cheers. I think we probably have started pre-season training as the world cup players would have returned home by now as their teams have been knocked out and we have a few pre-season matches coming up as well so Samaras should get a good pre-season to be fit for the next season.
fifa shouldn't be in this simple as that... the structure of their league can be done however they feel as long as it has support of the clubs.. Who's fifa to say how a nation does their league? As long as the top 2 go to the champions league.. is fine with me.
marakana10 correct i totaly agree m8! wednesday is fifas decision.. i beleive things will end ok for us..
