Coming on very nicely. Do you guys belive attendances for the the big Brazil sides will be near sell out? (Come 2014 with the WC buzz and olympics in tow), or do you reckon the stadia's will be half filled?

as soon as Grêmio move to the Arena, the Arena terrain gets registered at the Registro de Cartório and Imóveis under Grêmio´s name. And the Olimpico area gets registered under OAS name.

there will be a last match at Olimpico (a farewell match) and a Madonna concert.

Many things from Olimpico will be removed and be used by Grêmio at the CT de Eldorado do Sul and the new CT being built at the side of the Arena.

(dont remember if you are brazilian or not, if not, CT means Centro de Treinamento (training center). The CT at Eldorado do Sul is for categorias de base (youth players) and the CT at the side of the Arena, also being built by OAS, will be used by the professionals.

So floodlights, grass field, benches, etc, etc, will all be reused by Grêmio. Other items will be transfered to the Arena (like the Calçada da Fama (Famous Players sidewalk, like that of Hollywood), other items will be sold as souvenirs for Grêmio fans.

Then the Olimpico will be demolished (implosion) and OAS will build hotels, residential and commercial towers in the area.

its important to notice that the Olimpico was not the first Grêmio stadium. As soon as Grêmio was founded, in 1903, we also built a stadium, the Estádio da Baixada, in what is now a very noble area of Porto Alegre, the Moinhos de Vento neighborhood. The stadium lasted exactly 50 years (1903 to 1953, when Olimpico was built).

notice the monument in the middle of the small square, with a plaque on it? It signals the location of the stadium and a small homage to it.

this is an exercise in futurology. There are many factors involved, as well as many different clubs and public behavior.

Grêmio classicaly has some of the best average attendances in Brazil. The club intends for average attendance to increase from about 22k today in the brazilian league to over 30k. However, prices are VERY high, so who knows.

The access to public will certainly be much better than at Olimpico Stadium. Half the public of Olimpico stadium came from outside Porto Alegre. And Porto Alegre is ONLY accessed from its north!! There is no Porto Alegre access from the south and from the west. And from the east, there are only a very few small towns.

And where will Grêmio Arena be located? In the north of the city. Access will be MUCH, MUCH easier for anyone coming from the rest of the metro area, as well as fans from the Serra, center of the state, or even other states. It will be close to the airport and to a metro station.

There will be a much larger parking area and the project will allow the stadium to fill and empty in 5 minutes, allowing fans coming from afar to watch the entire match even if they arrive early, as well as it will take them less time to leave the stadium after a late night match.

Not counting all the confort and other facilities which did not exist at Olimpico.

But who knows. In theory, the stadium should get much bigger crowds. But there is also ticket price, which is a problem in the entire country

4th ring chairs already giving a full lap around the stadium. (only parts of the 4th ring have no chairs, because works were being made in the roof while the chairs were installed, and workers cannot work BELOW those areas in the same moment.
