Just got my console beta key for Gotham City Impostors. Looking forward to this game. Was a huge fan of Team Fortress, and this seems like a similar game with a Gotham twist.
What are your thoughts on this? I like it, but I've got issues with it. Minor ones like I'm unloading a clip in a guy and he doesn't die but I gt hit once with the shotgun and I'm dead.
2 thoughts ... it is a beta, so perhaps balancing issues are still being worked out, AND I think the amount of damage one can take is dependent on body type, no? Having a blast with this today, and although I'm only at level 5 or 6, I can't stop using the grappling device. Had 3 Jokerz defending one of their gas machines in Fumigation, grappled the wall behind them, landed behind them, and took all three out before they knew what hit them.
Actually, I'm 99.9% sure this is the case. When playing as a defender or medic, it looks like you're allotted a helluva lot more health points than other classes. I'm really digging the custom loadout slots. Embarassed to say I realized last night what I can do with all the coins and unlocks I had been accumulating. Thought the weapon and character customizations were locked because it was a beta. -EDIT- I mean, come on, what other game allows you to use a freaking garden gnome with a taser duct taped to him as a proximity "mine".
::continues conversation with self:: Hey, Dills, any idea when the full version of the game will come out? Why yes, Dills. As a matter of fact, that info was just released today. Great. Thanks, Dills. http://www.gothamcityimpostors.com/home/item/423-the-official-release-date-is-here
So the beta ends tomorrow (Monday), and I guess there are some minor bugs that still need to be addressed. As the game is about to start, you see a lot of moving and jostling of players from one team to another. I guess it's part of the game's way to balance things out? Anyway, during the 10 second countdown in one game yesterday - I'm on the Jokerz - where the camera pans around your character, I notice that my "skin" changes to my Bats loadout. I thought it was a minor hiccup, until the game started and my 3 "team mates" ran away from me, all of them designated as enemies. One shot from the Thunder Dragon and I got a multi-kill, mere seconds into the game. As much as I appreciated that, I doubt they did, and I do hope this isn't a common occurrence.
GCI Beta infographic (right-click>View Image to see larger): On top of all the 100+ items available for purchase (customizations you'd be able to "purchase" in-game anyway, just a quicker way to get them), they're releasing free DLC in March: http://www.gothamcityimpostors.com/home/item/428-the-next-chapter-of-impostors-yours-for-free New map, new weapons, new support item, new costume choices, etc.
Got around to buying this over the weekend and other than some trouble finding matches with friends I really dig it. I didn't go into details on what everything is for your loadout instead I was completely focused on unlocking the costumes. Right now (lvl9) it seems that while the different tweaks you can make to your class can/will be helpful but nothing seems all that overpowering. Hopefully the community doesn't get crazy competitive cause right now its a really fun & silly FPS.
The matchmaking does leave a LOT to be desired. If it starts to take anywhere close to a minute, I'll just back out and start up a new one, instead of waiting there twiddling my thumbs. It's supposed to be addressed in the free March DLC, along with the ability to join a match already in progress.
Monolith announced some new free DLC yesterday, which will be released soon. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cB5SIAmyGAg"]Huge announcement from Monolith Productions: April 18th[/ame] Lots of folks speculated that it'd include a slew of pirate-themed content, especially a parrot gun. However, the announced DLC merely contains a new map (The East End), a new game mode (Bounty Hunter), and new voice languages (French, Spanish, etc). [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tIBIihGd_0"]New FREE Content for Gotham City Impostors![/ame] So now the rumor mill is talking about a larger DLC forthcoming to include both pirate AND steampunk themed costumes, weapons, and other accoutrements.
