So, ya have a thread on Republican failures and it hits 4000 posts. Has to go to "Part III". Seems like there is a message in there somewhere.

Regarding the case-church amendment that taosjohn mentioned...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnamization

The withdrawal of US troops had started before the case-church amendment and dropped from over half a million when he came in to just over 100k 2-3 years later. I mean, he was pushed into it, I agree, but my point was that Obama's record isn't drastically better.

    Two messages:

    a) This board skews left.

    b) Republicans, for the most part, fail quite often.

Every event that includes a log on skews left. What remains of the Republican right is a few old men yelling at chairs. They don't post on the internet.

Well, there are probably a few that think they're posting on it but in reality they're just typing on an old Olivetti typewriter, the nurse taking the paper away when they fell asleep :D

Higher percentage of Democrat posters on BS?

And yes, more bat dumb shit coming from the republican party.

But I do wonder if in the Big Guns forum the democratic failure thread is longer than the Republican failure thread? (Or any religious forum).

I always want to ask older people who say they're 'life-long republicans' if that means they supported that party, say, 50 years ago because it's FUNDAMENTALLY different to the one now.

Well how many democrats around today that supported the democratic party 50 years ago?

I assume "life-long republicans" that you talk about are RINOS that support the party mostly on economic issues.

Well, I am not sure if Obama could win the election if he got 0% of the "old" vote.

Whereas the Democratic party today looks similar to the Democratic Party in 1960? Things change.

I think philosophically, the Democratic Party is grounded in the same principles it held in the 1960s, even if they've moved rightward in practice and they've gotten away from the sort of inclusiveness for its own sake that helped sink their chances in 1968.

Republicans, on the other hand, are the Dixiecrats of the 1960s.

I think you should look at the Democratic party platform of the 60s a bit closer before making statements like that. After all, the Dixiecrats were Democrats.
It isn't at all realistic to expect political parties to remain static. The world changes, so do they.

I'm looking at the party platforms for '64 and '68, and I'm not seeing a huge difference from the party today.

Anyway, the Dixiecrats were already breaking off from the national party by 1948, with Strom Thurmond's run for presidency, and they were only nominally Democrats in the '60s. The Democratic Party of the 1960s is one that's defined by Kennedy, LBJ, Civil Rights Movement and Great Society, not Jesse Helms.

    Romney on Obama -

Note that the same man who denounces stimulus spending as not creating jobs, says that government spending creates jobs. No Reputin notices or cares about the inconsistency.

That is because Reputinism is a protest movement, a cultural movement. It is not about economics, Mitt Romney's background and the talk about business experience notwithstanding.

Its all about the strategists telling Mitt "we need to tie everything back to the economy" and this is the masterstroke they come up with. They don't realize how dumb it is until they say it out loud.

The funny thing is, these jobs are the very ones that Bain's Mitt Romney would cut if he takes over a company (unless they can make money off a good military contract).

    Funny article...

    I loved this one:

    • Walmart – Where else can you buy guns, beer and beef jerky all in one place? It’s like heaven on Earth! Good thing Walmart showed up right when it did, thirty local stores went out business last year after the Grand Opening. Damn economy… This is all Obama’s fault! Ooooh look! Turkey jerky!
