It wasn't at Katz's! It was at some hole in the wall deli. IIRC, it was on a sandwich with fried egg replacing the meet - here in the sticks of the Midwest ketchup on egg is a staple. I don't need to defend myself from some elitist liberal New Yorker
Careful now. You are about to launch me on an American Exceptionalism rant. Don't even get me started on putting ketchup on a hot dog.
New Zealanders put beets on hamburgers. Flew Lot, the Polish airline. Asked for a white wine. 70 degrees. I said nah, how about a beer? 70 degrees. Alright red wine then. The wine wasn't any good but at least it was only 10 degrees above the correct temperature.
If someone put ketchup on my eggs, I'd shoot them. With my gun. That I can buy easily. In Texas. Thanks to the GOP. How's that for a return to topic?
All I know is what the Belgians do to fries, and the various concoctions (not ketchup) they're meant to go with is a qualitative leap beyond any fries I've had in the States.
Also on topic -- the GOP complains about class warfare when a Dem says something that is not class warfare, such as perhaps marginal tax rates should be raised so as to cut the deficit. Then the GOP itself engages in class warfare, of the real and outright kind, by calling the President an elitist and a snob.
To be clear, ketchup only goes on scrambled eggs. At all other times, it is inappropriate. Also, the ketchup is better in the Midwest, and hot sauce and ketchup are not mutually exclusive.
Polish put ketchup on their pizzas. And, honestly, it usually improves their pizzas, too. Dude, we invented french fries in these parts, as well as hamburgers, and the sausages you use for your hot dogs. We'll put on them whatever we want! Nothing beats Patatje (and Frikandel) Oorlog (fries, mayo, peanut sauce, onions), btw, but a currywurst and fries with ketchup and mayo is a close 2nd. As for scrambled eggs: Good scrambled eggs lose something when you combine them with ketchup, but I have had eggs that were improved by it.
Ketchup doesn't belong on anything. Ever. American Brummie, did I see you try to pass off Kentucky as part of the Midwest a few posts back? Don't even try - you're as southern as south can be.
I may currently live in this backwater swamp, but I spent most of my life in central Ohio - hence being a dedicated Columbus Crew fan. Ketchup on eggs was on the menu at the original Bob Evans farm restaurant.
