We briefly break into this Gooch thread for an update on the Joey Barton discussion from the previous thread.
And by subbing him off, his club is able to hold him out of Ireland's friendlies (which it is doing).
No, just missed the entire 2012-13 season due to injury. Was back in the Ireland squad as soon as he was fit
Don't know whether that says about how good he still is or how Ireland is so poor that they haven't been able to replace him.
Not sure. Dunne is essentially the same player he's always been, just much more injury prone. He was never fast, so he hasnt really had to adapt that much, and his anticipation and reading of the game is still good. Ciaran Clark is the great hope for the Irish defence, but he seems to have stalled in the last year or so
gooch gets an extension “He’s (Onyewu) a good lad and there are so many games coming so you never know with injury,” said Redknapp. http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/qpr-boss-set-extend-defenders-6291707 this seems like a "lets make it to january" deal, with the buying power behind Harry there will certainly be another central defender in in a month or so. Cenrtral defense has been a thin spot for some time at qpr. Why elsewould Ryan Nelsen play so much in the premier league at age 35.
Aside from his gift year to AC Milan, (which in truth may have been a gambit on Gooch's part), he seems to have always been a pragmatic footballer.
Great point. He was a BEAST in the Belgian league and did well in the European competition. Perhaps had he gone to the French or Turkish league or just any other Serie A club outside the top 4, he might have accomplished a ton there.
I'm probably going to post this in several threads where we have discussed knee injuries, but apparently there's a "new" knee ligament that we didn't know about before: http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/...scovery-a-new-knee-ligament/?ref=science&_r=0

New interview from Steve Goff: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/wp/2013/12/11/a-few-minutes-with-oguchi-onyewu-2/
so its over at QPR apparently Harry Redknapp has said he wants Gooch to stay; apparently (I assume) Gooch isnt happy with no playing time so is going to move on.
I love the QPR site's write up on Gooch, "widely tipped to be going to the World Cup with the US this summer...."
