It shouldn't matter to QPR what the hell Jurgen thinks...they've had Gooch train with them for last few weeks, so they should have a decent sense of what he has to offer. Whatever happens next summer doesn't matter because they only have Gooch signed to a short-term deal - so they won't benefit if in fact he is selected to the WC roster.
^^^^^ No where in that article did Rednapp say that he signed Guchi on account of Klinsmann's comment.
Garbled message. He actually said, "Gooch is almost certainly going to the World Cup, I saw his ticket confirmation and everything."
Harry is not very smart. He is charming, canny, and a very good manager, but he's just not smart. I just think you're taking his words literally, as if it's really what he heard and not an arry on the fly modofication of what he just heard.
anyone watched the game to tell how the current centerbacks did? Since he just signed with them, I'd figure Gooch might need a match or 2 before he gets a run in, but then again apparently he's been training with the team for weeks now. He just might be ready next weekend. BTW when a player is brought on trial and it's not a for sure thing that they will be signed, who pays for their expenses? The player on trial and is he later compensated?
They did ok, no glaring errors but each with a few negative contributions here and there, Hill heading back to Rob Green in a crowd of players and losing posession for example. To be fair to Hill Rob Green was having one o fhis Clint Dempsey style outings, where he looked likely to make a mistake that cost a goal. Very unusual for him this year. Clint Hill and Richard Dunne are both very good very experienced defenders, both probably a little too good for the championship, strong in the air, good at marking, have a good relationship with each other playing wise allowing them to together compensate at least somewhat for the fact that theyre both old, creaky and slow. They started the first 10 games of the season allowing only 2 goals or something crazy like that, but have allowed 6 in their last 3 games. Burnley is really good right now and they comprehensively beat QPR. Perhaps there are changes in store throughout the first 11, there's certainly alot of depth in the QPR roster especially in midfield, though the current CB's are playing well and in the immediate would probably only sit if they needed a rest. The fact of Gooch at QPR is this: QPR have a very good defence anchored by Rob Green and the two cenerbacks Hill and Dunne; when Onuaha is healthy he will play with Dunne in the middle and Hill at left defender, a position for which he's passable at championship level. That's about it for centerbacks, theres a youth player named Max Ehmer who sometimes makes the bench. This move for QPR is about depth in a position they have a high degree of chance of injury of some kind or at the very least need to rotate more through cup games etc. I suspect Gooch will see minutes covering if nothing else, if he distinguishes himself or something happens to the current CB's at QPR, he will get more minutes. His short deal is something QPR has done before with players with injury histories, Keiron Dyer to name one. Dyer ended up staying with the club for 2-3 years, though he didnt play much. I'm guessing Gooch will bolt for MLS if he ever ends up in that position.
The Championship is a grueling 46 game season.... Gooch will see some time at some point i'm sure and then its up to him to impress.
The problem is we have seen lots of this and intimidating stares and not enough quality soccer from Gooch. He needed to spend less time in the weight room and way more time on soccer skills and agility.
And then Richard Dunne goes off at halftime, presumably hurt, so the door of opportunity may have just cracked open again.
Dunne has had an ongoing groin problem he's been playing through, the sub looked precautionary and with an international break now he should be fine.
