Baltimore is where certain Washingtonians used to go for fun. It never worked the other way around. Washington is quite possibly the world's most boring city.

It's more of a federal district than a city.

(Not that that distinction makes it less boring, to some/many.)

When the coolest social thing to do in DC is to go to a bunch of food trucks parked on the street... ...I can see why you said what you said. :p

The coolest thing to do in DC is to go to an MLS game.

(And yes, they have food trucks there, too.)

    3. Bill Hamid

Folks need to realize that we will more than likely not have the same squads for the GC and WCQ's. We also won't have any U-20's who folks think we might cap in the GC.

And another thing.....MLS will still be season, so any one who is pulled will more than likely be starters on the GC squad.

My guess of who will be there.

GK: Guzan, Johnson (if Guzan isn't there), Steve Clark, Yelldell
DF: Morrow, Morales, Orozco, Spector, Bocanegra, Dolo
MF: Bedoya, Mix, Conor O'Brien, Gatt, Gyau, Kljestan, Beckerman
    FW: Boyd, Agudelo, Wooten, Bruin

We might have too many winger types but this is what I think will be going.

    ------x2------------Dono----------x3----------
    -----------------------x4--------------------

X1- not sure who the best mls dmid is in a formation like this. Anybody know?
X2- Corona. Gatt plays summer league in Norway, he wont be available, not Mix either
X3- Shea, if he needs the work. Speas if he comes on. Wenger maybe?
X4- Agudelo, McBean. Boyd could be available early July and might want a game.

I figure we use Rimando, John, Harrington (he plays for Portland), Edu and Donovan as vet leaders and put young guys around them.

I'd imagine some would argue for Perry Kitchen or Dax McCarty in that X1 spot, but there may be other/better options for the US and/or this Gold Cup.

These are Fifa dates for the Gold Cup, so someone like Gatt is just as available as the MLS guys are.

Will Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama likely be sending B teams as well? I was looking at the 2009 squad lists and it seems there players with lots of caps, but I have no idea if those were B teams (or mixed A/B?).

I assume the teams not in the Hex (e.g., Canada) will send full strength teams. But maybe I shouldn't assume that.

Eh, not really sold on the 23 looking like that. Think this will be more like it:

    GK: Johnson, Hamid, Yelldell
D: Morales, Spector, John, Orozco, Ream, Okugo, Castillo, Morrow
M: Bedoya, Diskerud, Gatt, Torres, Beckerman, Corona, Davis, Gyau
    F: Boyd, Agudelo, Davies, Bruin

In regards to Gatt, Molde has Champions League qualifiers during the Gold Cup. They could however be playing some team from Malta, Moldova, Ireland, Macedonia, etc.

That was our B-Team. We'll probably send a domestic based squad with fringe players abroad again.

If we're talking about fringe goalkeepers, I think you gotta go with Steve Clark. Or even Dan Kennedy. Yelldell is not even the backup on his team. I'd also like to see Stuart Holden and Conor O'Brien on this team.

Agreed but one of the reason I included Yelldell in my roster was because I don't see an MLS keeper being called in to ride the bench.

Will be really interesting to see which way JK goes. Does he go with fringe players, both young and old? Or more young players who are a bit further out on the fringe?

For me, in a WCQ year, I'd go with the fringe guys (young or old) and let them battle to see who stands out the most and can be a part of the WCQ squad going forward.

    OMIT:
    GK: Howard, Guzan
D: Cherundolo, Gonzalez, Cameron, F. Johnson; Chandler, Besler, Goodson
M: Donovan, Jones, Bradley, Edu, Zusi, Wiliams, Beasley
    F: Altidore, Dempsey, Gomez, EJ

    Bring:
    GK: Rimando, Johnson, Hamid
D: Parkhurst, Orozco, Boca, Castillo; Spector, John, Marshall, Lichaj (if Boca doesn't want it, Whitbread).
M: Gatt, Kljestan, Beckerman, Shea; Bedoya, Diskerud, Kitchen, Corona
    F: Boyd, Wondolowski, Pontius, Davies

    Possibles:
    GK: Kennedy, Hall
    D: Onyewu, Ream, Brooks
M: Clark, Feilhaber, Adu, DeLeon, Speas
    F: Bruin, Agudelo, Sapong, Cooper

Is it wrong to say that I don't give a hoot? In all honesty, there shouldn't be one single regular starter on the roster except Zusi (he's been regular lately).

You may not give a hoot, but if you truly don't give a hoot why didn't you just ignore the thread? That would make more logical sense.

I think people should care about the Gold Cup. Gold Cups have helped us integrate new talent and showcase their stuff prior to World Cup competition. Guys like Mastroeni and Beasley some to mind.
