I hardly think we can afford one but thanks for addressing that. An odd obsession with alot of people on here to keep mentioning players for the CB position when they hardly if at all play there for their clubs. Edu, for me, is out of the NT picture completely until his playing time gets better, if it ever does in a Stoke kit...
Probably just another Chandler waiting to happen. I don't know. I prefer the Fabian Johnson all-out approach... Get called-up for like one game and he's signing the FIFA one-time switch paperwork on the plane home.
Doesn't this illustrate the big challenge of coaching the US? It's been the dream of US coaches and fans for a very long time to have a bunch of players in Europe on first division teams that the coach could then choose from and not have to do the guess work of evaluating an MLS player. The coach could never be wrong by playing someone who plays in the EPL. That's the dream, anyway, let foreign coaches do the leg work (ignore work permit issues for other talent). The reality that Klinnsi has to deal with is that he still must gamble on MLS and 2nd/3rd division players. Funny thing is, even countries that have all their players on 1st division Euro leagues are still forced to gamble and don't always win.
Even Brazil will have to look beyond their Western European based players given the rise of the nouveau riche and highly competive Eastern Euro teams.
He's probably played his last game with Dallas. Available on a free with an EU passport in hand, he's as good as gone to Europe this winter.
LOL- So Ives chooses Berry as his Rookie defender of the year then ranks Hedges higher then him, something doesn't compute there.
Just like last year with a loan/ buy option to english side? I would say chances are less this time around.
No one really brings up Parkhurst in the CB discussion going forward. He played pretty damn well there partnering Cameron last camp cup cake. He defends well, is good in possession and overall makes good decisions. His obvious drawbacks are his areal game, his strength, and the fact that he hasn't been playing CB for his club. That said, these are my top three candidates to partner Cameron going forward: 1) Gonzalez 2) Parkhurst 3) Onyewu I'd also keep my eye on Brooks, Edu and Besler, but I definitely have more faith in the 3 guys above.
Two thoughts after last night's game. 1) I still like Jay Demerit, and think there's a place for him at the national team level. Seemingly a great leader. People act like Jay Demerit is 35 years old. He's 32, and is more "national team ready" than some of the prospects people talk about. If we had a rash of injuries/suspensions to Cameron and company prior to a qualifier, Demerit's the guy I'm calling. A quality back-up plan in my view. 2) Tommy Meyer has improved greatly this season. People don't put him in this discussion of MLS rookies with Hedges and Berry. However perhaps it's time somebody did......................... He's not national team ready like Omar Gonzalez, but he's worth keeping an eye on.
If Jay Demerit is healthy, he is still a very good centerback. He would get my vote for MLS defender of year. He still has game, it was seen against Chelsea in the all star game and pretty consistently in MLS games. He also doesnt have the same wear and tear as 32 year old Europeans have. With his leadership, his good play, and how good a face he is for a franchise, he should be DP.
