Big weekend for OKC FC. We get West Texas at home on Saturday night. We really need 3 points to help sew up at least 2nd place.
THEN, Sunday night we play Club America U-20. Most likely this will be the biggest soccer friendly ever played in OKC. Not sure about Tulsa.

What's going to hurt Reading United is their players' aspirations. The team will be missing three players who are off for trials in Europe. A similar thing happened a couple of years ago and cost them a shot at the PDL title. The following three players will all miss multiple games (with teams in parenthesis):

Fatai Alashe - Derby County (U.K.), A.C. Cambuur (Holland), unnamed club in Sweden
Patrick Slogic - unnamed clubs in Austria
Ben Sweat - Sigma Olomouc (Czech Republic), Djurgardens (Sweden)

KW United have a friendly organised vs Sporting Lisbon https://www.facebook.com/KwUnitedFc?fref=ts on July 17th. Big friendly for such a small club. They say it would be a strong side but that is hard to beleive.

    PDL Game Review
    7/10 Game vs Vermont Voltage

The Phoenix PDL playoff push took a shuddering body blow last night, as the side were defeated 1-0 by the Vermont Voltage.

The game took place at the Perley Collins Sports Complex, on a muggy evening in St.Albans, Vermont. The Voltage are famed for their home ground being a tough venue to travel to, and tonight proved no different for the boys from Portland.

The Voltage started the brighter of the 2 sides, with a chance from a corner kick in the 1st minute of play. A few moments later a similar chance fell to striker Lucas Carvalho Cordeiro, from an almost identical corner routine which was to put the Voltage 1 in front.

The Phoenix were left totally shell shocked by the early goal, and for the next 20 minutes rarely connected any passages of play. On 38 minutes the Phoenix went down to 10 men, in what proved to be a massive talking point. A sliding tackle from Englishman Neil Harries on Cordeiro, resulted in a rather theatrical reaction from the Brazilian. In what may have been a Yellow card challenge at best, the referee decided Harries had to walk, and produced a Red Card. Down to 10 men, it certainly looked to be an up hill task ahead for the Phoenix.

A small glimmer of hope for the Phoenix came when Pierre Omanga closed the half with a darting central run at goal, however the Frenchman failed to convert and the half ended 1-0.

The 2nd half started in aggressive fashion as the Phoenix employed a more direct style of play. Despite the man advantage, the Voltage employed a counter attacking game, which invariably made for an exciting half of football.
The main attacking threat from the Phoenix was the vicious whipping crosses of right back Jonathan Lupinelli. The Frenchman flighted a number of dangerous efforts, that the Voltage keeper did extremely well to deal with. A change in shape saw Kamali Webson revert to the forward line to partner Omanga, in what proved to be an attacking front from coach Ally Bain. Chances came and went and while the Phoenix knocked on the door, they simply couldn't get themselves back in the game. The match finished 1-0 to Vermont, and provided a huge dent in the Phoenix title challenge.

The Phoenix move on now to a double header this weekend, as they take on Real Boston Rams on Saturday 13th July at Deering High School, and CFC Azul on Sunday 14th July at Scarborough High School.

Everyone at the Phoenix would welcome your support, and we look forward to seeing as many families and players at this weekend's games as possible.

OKC FC have a chance to solidify their playoff chances this weekend, with two away games against top team Austin Aztex, and Laredo Heat, who are right behind OKC in the standings

OKC FC tied Laredo on the road last night. SO, they didn't lose any ground to Laredo and have a chance to get a win against Austin on Saturday, which would even give them an outside shot at winning the division

That Big Apple article was posted the day AFTER the London-Michigan game??? (London won to take the lead in the division.) BTW, a quick glance of the PDL standings shows four Canadian teams leading divisions:
Central Conference, Great Lakes Division: Forest City London
Central Conference, Heartland Division: Thunder Bay Chill
Eastern Conference, Northeast Division: Ottawa Fury
Western Conference, Northwest Division: Victoria Highlanders

It's been quite some time since I've posted on BigSoccer, but I'm glad to be back... Fuego @ 10-0-2 has a game tonight vs SC Seahorses. It's tough to say how this matchup will end up, especially because the Seahorses always play us tough! Last encounter, Fuego won 2-0 on Paul Islas 2 scores. Islas has since signed a PRO contract w/Charlotte Eagles and Robert Garcia has stepped in. Needless to say, Seahorses could have come away with the win had they put it away on several occasions.
Tonight's matchup ends the regular season for Fuego at home. A big crowd is expected tonight after a 5-0 win vs visiting OC Blues Strikers last Thirsty Thursday night. Robert Garcia's hat trick came at an opportune time following Islas' absence.

I would have to check, but I think Des Moines is actually outdrawing them. Though those two have been among the league leaders for the last several years.

Unless something changes in the current standings, we could be headed for a rematch of last year's round of 16 matchup between Austin and Ocala, a game that sent 3 players from Austion into the 1st round of the MLS draft, and 4 players and 2 coaches from Ocala directly to the USLPro.

Dr. Anguish, is the feeling that Panama City won't slip up and let Ocala leapfrog them? Several of us in Austin are watching yours and PCB's matches so we can see who we'll play. We're watching PCB with particular interest in relations to who will host the playoffs. If the Southern Conference playoffs are held in Austin, anyone from Florida looking to make the trip? Eberly's Army members can help with lodging if you'd like.

We wanted to host, but a local investor submitted for a baseball tournament months ago to be played @ Chukchansi Park during our playoff dates. If we're fortunate enough to win the rest of the way and make it to the finals, we'll petition to host it in Fresno, CA. The competition level is high, so we must take it a game at a time...

Actually the feeling here is this: If Ocala can get the 3 points on Thursday at home vs VSI Tampa Bay, we'll then put Panama City in a very precarious position, meaning they'd have to win 2 games on the road on Friday and Sunday to hold us off, which for them would be a very tough road trip to get the 6 points. Ocala feels very good about their chances if we can get the 3 on Thursday.

Panama City's defense looks to be stout, as Ocala scored 4 goals against them in 2 games, while the rest of the division in the other 10 games scored only 5. However, their offense is suspect at best. Ocala leads the PDL in goals scored (38) while Panama City doesn't even have half that (17). If a team can get into a shootout with Panama City I don't know if they have the guns to keep pace, simply because they havent had to all year.

    Thats a bs excuse though.

Its summer. Fresno has like 10 empty high school stadiums collecting dust.

    Thanks for the numbers.
