Have to laugh at the sweeping judgments thrown around in this thread. I am actually a Fraternity member (a social one, at that), and I've never done a Bearfight, or got drunk at a game. I guess if by "fratboy" mentality Mr. Freeman means my constant singing, chanting, and cheering from my perch above the entrance tunnel, than I take that as a compliment!
Did the initiation process to your "social" frat involve twelve steps? P.S. hating on frat boys is so out, hating on hipsters or the rest of the different like everybody else crowd is in.
anyone who participates in a group which congregates to sing songs and watch soccer immediately qualifies themselves as a "hipster," so unless we want to be the "self-hating-jews" of sports, I'd prefer to leave the hipster hate out, and spend more time hating on the Oompa-loompas that are NJPC "supporters"
Difference between us and hipsters... we like soccer they just like soccer because not many people here do.
It all depends on your perspective and what brought you to watch soccer. I don't look at soccer as being "hipster" in the least and although there are lots of "hipsters" in the SOB, I don't think that makes it a "hipster' organization. There are so many different types of people that form the SOB/union fans, about the only thing they have in common is a love of soccer and a hatred of the NY Redbulls. If the Union really was a "hipster" organization, half the crowd would have left when we had our first sell out. Hipster's, being different just like everyone else.
This drives home the facts here. Sure, you can have your own supporter group. Anyone can. But I dont think many of you realize the time and effort it takes to MAINTAIN that group. The SOBs are successful because of COUNTLESS volunteer hours and efforts by many.
as someone who helped create and run a 501(c)(3) on a much smaller scale for 10 years, I hope you know how much legal work is required to first incorporate and then get certification from both the state and th IRS, plus the ongoing paperwork if you have a budget greater than $5,000 a year. You can't just have a bunch of people doing good out of a clubhouse, unless you can get some other 501(c)(3) to sponsor you as a project, like a church or well, the SoBs. And even then your budget has to be smaller than some fixed percentage of your sponsors' budget. Also the rules for membership organizations where everybody gets a vote are stricter than if it's just a board. I understand completely the urge to start your own non-profit with it's own identity outside any other organization's control, and I think the project is a great idea, but it's a project, not a supporters group, and as described it's also a non-profit corporation, and in this case, other than personal dislike, I don't see that you have a conflict of interest with the SoB charitable mission.
Oh. Thanks for the clarification. I just thought maybe it was some sort of split personality disorder.
Not that I have a problem with the SOB, but if there was anything they could change, I would like to see the SOB's actually state there opinion, instead of sharing and linking news articles and pictures. First how can you have an opinion on the sob when you are in Arizona, just stop with that nonsense. And what does the fake Peter Novak twitter have to do with anything. That guy has just starts shit and doesn't have the balls to say who he really is.
Why doesn't the SOB ever say, "Hey, we don't like the Union's decision on trading Le Toux?" Why is it always article ? Why is it never a statement?
