HOLY ********ING SHIT VFish was right.

The fact that energy prices are declining so much means that this is great news...

Since the right went all ape-shit a few short months back blaming the high gas prices on Obama and his socialist policies and high oil company taxes, I expect them to come out in the same numbers praising the President's leadership for allowing prices to drop so fast.

It's Obama's fault. He can't get the economy working. [that will be new battle cry]

Can some of you more statistically-inclined posters find out if there is a correlation between the second half of an election year and lower gas prices? I seem to remember the same thing happening when Bush II was up for re-election.

You got it all wrong. They are going to claim it was a conspiracy set up so the prices would drop right before the presidential election

The conspiracy claim is probably out there somewhere now but I don't feel like dredging the internet to look for it.

I saw an investment manager yesterday asked by a Fed-baiting audience about the Fed's effect on commodity prices. The resp;onse was a smirk. "The Fed doesn't set commodity prices, global demand does."

The right needs to get out a bit more. President This and Fed That. As if they matter.

There's a statistical correlation between high gas prices and winter, and low gas prices and summer. Hard to see if correlation=causation, though ;) It only appears salient in Presidential election years because nobody pays attention in 2011, 2009, 2007, etc.

The Chinese economy must really be tanking. There have been rumors all year that they painted overly optimistic forecasts.

Not to just hate on the right, but from the left this should also shut up Chuck Schumer on his Sunday press releases insisting that the President release from the strategic reserves to lower the prices. I like Chuck, but sounds like an ass when he does that.

I thought the correlation was lower gas prices in winter, higher in summer.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure people have been paying attention to gas prices over the last 10 years pretty consistently, not just when it was politically relevant.

Production and inventory (supply) are up. Demand is down.

and Obama's intervention in Libya was timed perfectly so increased production would come on line in time for the 2012 elections.

The conspiracy theorists were right. Obama is an evil genus. :D

But because of politics the President get the blame during election years; Obama did the same shit when he was running against Bush record, then prices start going down after summer and this story goes away from the news, it repeats the next election season. It is truly a hypocritical bipartisan tactic.

It's not a coincidence that gas prices plunge after Obama comes out in support of gay marriage and sets his own version of the DREAM act.

you can repeat it as often as you like, but it doesn't make it any more true than the first time you spouted this lie

No we can blame the low price of gas on Obama because no one has the money here to buy gas anymore.

Everyone is out of work and can't find a job. Good work Obama re elect him and everyone will ride bikes. The government will take over the bicycle business in the US, then they we start selling bikes then bikes will cost 20,O00 a piece.
