The new Falcons stadium would be an open air stadium configured for both football and soccer. Problem is the public does not want a new stadium and neither does the Governor. Either way look for the stadium to be built within the next 5 years as our local government is crap
Are you saying that Seattle won't be able to take advantage of four home games in the Cascadia Cup? Awwww.
Please tell me this will be natural grass. I can't imagine playing summer soccer in Hotlanta on fake turf.
Good stuf, thanks for the link. This jumped out at me: "No mechanism to make it easier for clubs to tap into funds to retain players. Has been discussed though."
Call me lame, but that's all he has to say? This is the first time I've been invested in MLS enough to pay attention to the commissioner, but I waited excitedly all day for work to wrap up to come home and see what he's stirred up. And it turns out... he didn't really say anything. Bummer.
Its only turf b/c they play in the Georgia Dome and its cost effective to just use turf since the field is used alot(Falcons, Georgia State, Georgia HS Championships). Falcons players actually hate the turf and Blank isnt stupid enough to have an outdoor stadium with fake grass. Not with 1 billion dollars on the line
That's not so bad. Ususally he yaps and yaps, but still says nothing. I guess that is one advantage of no streaming this year.
Last I heard, the Falcons are no longer wanting a outdoor stadium and want a retractable roof stadium (with turf I'm guessing). That being said, it doesn't really matter what the players want, it's what the owner and front office likes (hence the reason why Seattle still uses turf).
Truthfully, this used to be chock full of news. However, as the league has solidified its standing, less and less news has come through this venue. Additionally, this is the first year in quite awhile with no expansion, so the league format does not really have any reason to change, which was a good chunk of the news in previous years.
Most of his talk was about players because hyping players is good business--the league itself is on solid financial footing other than TV ratings. Some teams are flourishing (Galaxy, Seattle, KC, Houston), others are stagnant (Colorado, FCD), while others (Chivas USA, NE Revolution) are literally being sabotaged by their owners. It would be tough for Don to come right out and be truthful about that. There is no State of the League as such now that we're getting locked into the concept of perennial playoff teams with committed ownership, borderliners on autopilot, and eternal losers because of bad ownership. MLS HQ has done all it can--some eagles have left the nest and soared, other turkeys have fallen to the ground.
