Pastor's steak kabob was rocking! But, Ellen has seen a few finer dining restaurants listed in the area, and she's all about spending my benjamins.
Ninos was a good bet for me and kids, pizza cant go wrong plus beer on draft even better in a strip mall. carvel ice cream and a party store to buy streamers and confetti

FWIW: Here are the Zagat ratings for their listed restaurants for Newark. There are no listings for Harrison. The numbers that follow are the Food rating and Avr. price per person. I am unsure which ones are walkable from the stadium. No Xavier's at Piermont here, but it looks very interesting none the less. I hope this helps someone. the Spain Restaurant is a good place. Good service and big delicious portions. I ate there for the Santos game. I will definitely go again.
Yeah I thought it would be mobbed after the match, but it was empty oddly enough. But I guess its still New Jersey. Anybody know of a small, authentic Portugese restaurant in the area? I went to Iberia. It was okay, but pretty commercial. The portions were ridiculously large. Am looking for a small, family-owned place.
Either Spanish Pavillion in Harrison (portuguese and spanish) or O'Imperial in Kearny are both really good. O'Imperial would be about a 20 minute walk up Frank E Rodgers/Kearny Ave
does it have to be small, we decided to go here :http://www.elpastorrestaurant.com/ I was told it was packed with RB supporters and its 5-10 min walk to the stadium. It is portugese.
Try Coimbra Bar & Restaurant (637 Market St.). The food is authentic and it's family owned - just what you're looking for. Here are a few reviews: Yelp Zagat
SOme Peruvian places near the stadium..... (i have tried only a handful of them that i clearly remember, those in boldtype...... and i can vouch for their food, but having been born in Peru i cannot say i lack bias) Try the usual ....Lomo saltado, pollo a la brasa..... Good stuff, not expensive at all.... so it won't cause too much damage to the wallets..... 1. Spondylus 206 Harrison, Avenue Harrison, New Jersey 07029 Phone: 1973-497-2040 2. I think it was Yoli's that my wife and I tried out about a year ago. Yes, we were testing out the area even back then... BTW - She loved it. So did I.
of the ones i remember clearly having tried out and could fully recollect their names and locations (ie those in boldtype) "Oh Calamares!" was the one i liked best and is less than 2 miles away from the stadium....BUt anyway all the those i highlighted are at worst about 2.75 miles away from RBA, and basically on the same road since Frank E. Rodgers Blvd becomes Kearny Ave. when going towards the city of Kearny...It would be quite difficult to get lost or lose one's way from these places to the stadium even to people not familiar with the area....
how long has Oh Calamares been around for there? they used to have one up in north bergen across from n. hudson park when i was living up there but it burned down. wondering if the owners relocated or what? good stuff. oh, and i ain't too sure about santa barbara.....i wasn't too impressed with that place but it's been like 8 or 9 years since i've been there so....
Oh Calamares is about 4-5 years old at the most. The building used to be a Pizzeria and before that one of the many Fish and Chip shops kearny used to have.
Forno's of Spain We chose Forno's of Spain as this was the highest Zagat rated restaurant. This one of the first eateries that you run into on Ferry street after getting out of Penn Station. This place was fabulous, but won't be for everybody. Here's our review for our fellow foodies: Very nice old world decor. Large dining room with comfy seating. It had the feeling of being in Europe or Argentina around the Recoleta area. Wine list was very good, but very expensive, nothing under $50. Quite a few well over $100 (including Opus One, a favorite from better economic times). Many patrons got pitchers of Sangria instead. Unfortunately, I can't drink the stuff due to an unfortunate experience in college. We're not well schooled in Spanish wines, but to keep the cost reasonable, we ordered a cab blend that we had never heard of (Gran Corunas). It was a nice vintage and tasted quite good once it opened up a bit. When you sit, they bring you olives, a nice fresh salad and two types of fresh bread (regular and garlic). The meals are served with yellow rice, a nice veggie medley and homemade potato chips. All these accoutrements were pretty good, but be forewarned, tread lightly here because the main courses are HUGE. Thank goodness we didn't order an appetizer. We had stuffed squid. It was served chock full of shrimp, some lobster and chopped sausage in a creamy wine based sauce. The sauce was chunky enough to eat as meal. The squid itself was tender enough to be cut with a fork. It never got cloying, which is impressive for such a heavy preparation. Although there was no room left for it, the Mrs had to try the amazing Dulce de Lecce Mousse that melted in your mouth and made our palates dance. All in all the whole exercise in gluttony took two hours of our time and $150 from the wallet. We waddled on down Ferry St and over the bridge telling ourselves that we will never eat again. This obvioulsy is not a place to get a buzz on with your buddies while woo-hooing the Toro Rossos, but if you have the time and gastral capacity, this is certainly worth the damage to your finances and diet before a match at The Arena.
We spent a few hours at Lily O'Brien's on Murray St. in Lower Manhattan (great place to catch the games from England, fantastic pub menu). By the time we got to MMM Bello's it was a little later than expected and it was packed (it was also incredibly hot inside, upstairs at least). So we went to the place next door, Rio Criz, which was fantastic. Long bar with locals watching the Benfica match on TV. Great Portuguese sausage sandwich and room to breathe at least. It doesn't even say "Rio Criz" on the outside - just "Lunch Place" "Tavern and Grill," so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was great. I doubt Bello's will be quite so busy for the FC Dallas game - at least I hope not.
Wife and I went to Spain, which is a bit beyond MMM Bellos on the other side of Market. Lots of other Red Bull fans there. Place was nice, but the food was excellent. We got the special Seafood Medley recommended by the waiter. He also let us know it was huge, so we shared instead of ording two dinners. We also had muscles and shrimp cocktail (wife's fav) for appitizer. Seafood Medley had shrimp, scallop, muscles, clams, one very large prawn and a half a 2lb lobster with smaller claw, and an extra, larger lobster claw. And yes, we could not finish all the shrimp. All I can say is that for under $70 total, this was one of the best meals I've had in a while. The wait staff was also very excited to see us (like I said, there were at least 10 other tables with fans when we were there.) They were looking at our scarves and pointed out another couple that were in our section. While my hope is to try different places during the season, it will be hard to convince my wife to go anywhere else now.
