Not very, it was really brief and I doubt many remembered what Renly's armor looked like in the first place.

I keep forgetting how much more difficult that battle would be to follow without knowing how it goes in the book. Even though they changed several things the general outline was the same. I imagine a newbie would have to watch it two or three times to really get it.

Was it clear that the Hound left because he hates fire? I was only half watching.

It was clear to me, but I've seen some other people who didn't get that. But then some of these same people didn't remember the story of how his face was burned, it doesn't really make sense without that.

But yeah, I think they made it pretty obvious based on his flinching from the torch, reaction to the wildfire explosion, telling Tyrion the river's on fire, then telling Sansa he's going somewhere that "isn't burning".

I thought it thought was unmistakeable clear. They showed the Hound then they cut to the fire. The sound of the fire noticeable louder. Then back to the hound and his burned face. The loud fire noise remained. Then back to the fire, and so on.

Not to mention the threat he issued to the guy in charge of the archers. :)

Don't think he meant it when he said to Arya (primarily an attempt to get her to shut up/think he was evil).

I know, but for all that, a lot of people still didn't get it.

This show (and maybe intricate cable dramas in general) must be murder on the ADD generation. I've seen reference to lack of payoff or climax in certain storylines, or "plot holes" like certain characters disappearing (particularly Barristan, Alliser, and Beric). It'll be fun to see people begin to understand just how long a game this is once these characters start filtering back in, often in entirely different contexts.

Yeah, that could be. In any case I don't think there's any way he would've done it, but I'm sure it crossed his mind, drunk as he was.

I suspect next week's episode will feel rushed.

From the top of my head, they still need to cover:

    • The Bastard of Bolton sacking and burning down Winterfell
    • The Others attacking the Nights Watch at the Fist of the First Men
    • Daenerys at the House of the Undying
    • The aftermath of the Battle of the Blackwater
They sure could have used two more episodes to wrap the season up properly...

Jon also still needs to kill the halfhand.

In the most clumsiest possible manner, to keep up with his appearance on the show so far

On a positive note the next episode will be about 10 minutes longer than normal, around 65 minutes.

We'll definitely get the last two things you list, but how the other two will shake out is hard to say. I really have no idea how they'll swing the sack of Winterfell since apparently Ramsay hasn't even been cast.

And my guess is the attack on the Fist will be the season-ending cliffhanger.

We also need Arya's final conversation with Jaqen and the giving of the coin, some kind of closure with Robb/Catelyn, and some Jaime/Brienne (who appeared in the preview so they're definitely in). I doubt we'll see anything of Stannis's fate until next season.

I don't know, the one thing he's actually been shown to be capable at is sword-fighting.

Wonder if Ghost will help out with that effort, he's gone mysteriously AWOL.

    The preview is online:
So we seem to get some King's Landing, some unnecessary Jaime/Brienne interaction, a bit of Winterfell, Jaqen/Arya, Jon/Qorin and Daenerys entering the House of the Undying. Probably no Fist of the First Men, no Sack of Winterfell. Maybe not even the full chapter at the House of the Undying; it might be the cliffhanger.

Actually the Fist will definitely make it in. The last song on the season 2 soundtrack is called "Three Blasts"....

No idea. He wasn't named. Could have been Justin Massey?

I'm hoping they will not deprive us of Sandor & Arya's version of Midnight Run! :D

Thinking on the last episode the only think I think they failed on was the abrupt ending to the battle. Perhaps they cut have used the scenes they cut away to (Cersei, Sansa, and so on) as a way to show time going on. Had dawn starting to rise little by little and they have Tywin and co arrive at day break.

I agree 100% Too much for one hour. Each plot point above should get at least 30mins of air time.
