Donovan gave it to him because he didn't really care to have it and thought Becks should have it since he used to be England's captain.

Better than DC-Revs semi final or the San Jose-LA comeback match?

Donovan as a captain doesn't benefit anyone anyways. He's better off exploiting the opportunities given to him than helping create ones for others. Altidore and Angel are very potent and they don't wear the armband. They don't have to.

I was wondering when the feel good Becks story would start to turn the other way.

Loved the booing and was a proud contributer to it.

as far as quality of play and entertainment... best game ever. becks brings a new level to the game. a level that has not been seen in the mls thus far.

very true. porous backlines and shaky goalkeeping. however, all mls back lines are disorganized...it's just with this game it was actually exploited. typically disorganized mls backlines don't have as many issues as the attack is almost always anemic at best.

Quality of play? Cannon knocked two into his own net, Waterrus allowed two goals he shouldve saved, RBNY celebrated too much and let LD score one right off the kickoff... plus Dane Richards got a lucky deflection that bounced to Cletus for his record breaking goal.

It was very entertaining and it was fun to be part of a big crowd but if this is the best quality of our league then the english tabloids are right - we are no better than a pub side...

That may be, but imagine "Bullets" jerseys everywhere during a Wahington "Wizards" game.... A little silly...

Ummmmm rewatch the match dude, this match wasn't great because the great quality of play. It wasn't bad, but come on.

And was Beckham really a big difference maker during the run of play? Did he really evelvate the quality of the soccer well beyond anything we have seen before in MLS?

Nope. I have seen stuff like this in tons of MLS games. The difference is it was in a fantastic atmosphere. Atmosphere can add a lot to a game. As far as quality it was better offensive quality than most games, but worse defensive quality than most games, which isn't really an improvement. However I loved the game because of the whole package...drama, goals, play, excitement, atmosphere.

Nobody's mentioning the fact that Beckham turned it over to Clint Mathis at NY's 18 and could have easily ended up in goal, If not for Cannon's reflexes... I also haven't heard anything about Beckham's lazily taken - ill placed free kick from midfeild that was easily intercepted and lead to the break away run that brought about Altidore's 2nd goal... I guess he looked pretty doing it so what the hell...

ummm watch the game dude... if you can't see what beckham does for that team then you don't know anything about soccer.

Exactly. He draws a crowd and people that usually turn their nose up at the league will come out to see him.

That is where he is a difference maker. On the field so far he has done well taking set balls, but let's not go crazy. I am not sure what that guy was smoking.

The bad and mediocre players they assembled in LA play with more intensity. That's all I see. That is partly because of Beckham, but more from the crowds he draws. Red Bull played with intensity we don't see from them every match either. Let me guess, Becks is so amazing that he even motivates the other team?

Perhaps I am just not savy enough to see what you are seeing. Or.... perhaps it's you are too much of a fan-boy to see the reality of it. One or the other.

According to Hairynippleman, you obviously don't know anything about soccer
