I can't see how it can be other than a good thing for Obama but with your right-wing 'meeja' they'll be picking holes in anything and everything that happens and blaming him for it.

if Hillary had played her cards right, and instead of getting all "Qadaffi must go" on him, she could have easily replaced Rice as Qadaffi's secret crush.

I know that she was not Secretary of State - but speaking of Clinton cabinet, how about Janet Reno?

The United Nations has called on all sides in the Libyan conflict to take steps to ensure there are no acts of violence and revenge.

It comes as reports emerge of abuses and alleged summary killings by both rebels and troops loyal to Col Gaddafi.

    Re: They're not rebels anymore...

So can we stop calling the group that owns the entire country 'rebels' now? They're the government. Qaddafi is the rebellion. Rebel means 'counter to the government.' The NTC is still the revolutionary party, but they are by no means akin to the Karen or the Maoists in Nepal or Han Solo.

Leaked cable: John McCain pushed to arm Qadhafi

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/62114.html

In the meeting, Muatassim Qadhafi, the Libyan leader’s fifth son and national security adviser, requested U.S. assistance in obtaining military supplies, both lethal and non-lethal.

The cable indicates that McCain was the dominant voice among the congressional delegation in a push for military hardware for Qadhafi.

“Sen. McCain assured Muatassim that the United States wanted to provide Libya with the equipment it needs for its … security,” according to the cable.

If I know my MENA revolutions - and I like to think I do - his 'tomb' will be shared by about fifty of his closest family members and a sprinkling of lye. This isn't like Tunisia or Egypt - this man caused a lot of suffering over his tenure and exacerbated it with the civil war. There's going to be a lot of calling for bloodshed.

Libya interim leaders give ultimatum to Gaddafi forces

Libya's interim leaders have given pro-Gaddafi forces until Saturday to surrender or face military force.

Mustafa Abdul Jalil, who leads the National Transitional Council (NTC), said the ultimatum applied to loyalists of Col Muammar Gaddafi in his hometown of Sirte and in other towns.

The announcement came after Col Gaddafi's wife and three of his adult children fled to neighbouring Algeria.

Algeria has defended the move, which the NTC called an "act of aggression".

Col Gaddafi's own whereabouts are unknown - rumours have variously placed him in Sirte, in regime-controlled Bani Walid south-east of Tripoli, and in the capital itself.

At some point, it is time to give up.

If it shortens the war, so be it, let them leave. Maybe if Qadaffi has a place to go he will not feel compelled to fight to the last.

My guess -- Venezuela or Zimbabwe

    Why not John Wayne?
