And above it on the same page... http://rt.com/news/tripoli-fights-rebels-shooting-546/ They're the gift that keeps on giving, aren't they
We laugh, but translate that nonsense into Russian and it is forming the opinions of roughly 100 million people.
Future civil War in Libya is unlikely - the rebellion was cross-cutting across tribal regions and had the backing of the NATO air force and weapons from Europe. Probably not going to happen unless the West has a dog in the fight. Also, there's quite a bit of money to be made in renewing the $14k GDP per capita economy in the country.
Don't forget to watch the video at the bottom of the page, where their correspondent says his life is in danger and he needs to be extracted from Libya "under the wings of the United Nations". They moved on to a report on Syria--apparently the army has almost finished off the armed extremist gangs that have been terrorizing the population.
Good analysis here: http://www.juancole.com/2011/08/the-great-tripoli-uprising.html "This development, with the capital creating its own nationalist mythos of revolutionary participation, is the very best thing that could have happened."
Funny that I still have RT on my cable system and I was watching some British "expert" named Owen Jones claim that the riots in Britain were still about class. I put the mute on after 1 minute but they still flash the ideas that "the elites inspire the poor to steal" etc. But you would expect that from TASS 2.0
Yes - no western govt wants that trial. We already had a shameful trial which must never again see the light of a court room
We already had a European show trial for that one - no Western govt would want a rerun of that. And no way will anyone want to see the guy being given a public platform. He is an embarrassment who needs to exit quietly via a side door
Well if past ICC cases are anything to go by, Qaddafi would die in the Hague during his pre trial hearing which would take twenty years to complete. But what I was talking about was I thought Qaddafi settled the Lockerbie issue (for better or worse) with the US and UK governments?
It wasn't a European one. It was constructed for the benefit of the yanks, who also provided most of the 'evidence'. It was just DONE in Europe. Anyway... etc. etc.
I don't get the point of these pics. he was the leader of a sovereign country. as such, the heads of other sovereign states had to interact with him to some degree - and thus be photographed with him. it doesn't mean anything. isn't there a picture of Neville Chamberlain and Hitler or something we can rustle up to show how ridiculous the implications of these pictures are?
that said, I can't wait for Gadaffi to meet the end of most brutal dictators. and I hope Assad is watching.
you're being very reasonable too bad you missed all those pics of Rumsfeld and Saddam Hussein that were posted here on BS... oh, what fun we had with those! or the ones of Bush and that Saudi King... man, those were good times! if you only added your reason then we would have understood how petty we all were
I wasn't on these boards back then, but I saw those pics in plenty of other places. I wasn't sure what the intent of those pics were either, or what they were meant to imply. heads of state have to deal with all manner of evil people - and the inevitable photo ops follow. in my mind, they mean nothing.
I think it would serve humanity to make these two face each other in a death cage match on pay per view. Maybe the Hague Tribunal can work something out.
