    Assessment after Group Phase...

    • Mexico is in a league of its own
    • Honduras surpassed USA as the 2nd best performer in the region
    • Panama's young league continues to make strides, as does T&T which is growing by leaps & bounds getting very close to its first 2nd Round appearance
    • Puerto Rico proved to be a fluke (as did Montreal)
    • Guatemala surpassed the disappointing Costa Ricans
    • El Salvador is clearly the worst league but they salvaged some honor by booting USA's best team for their only win in group phases

Well, Arabe Unido did not play like the team from the previous round of the Champions League. The big signing, Yuyu Munoz, top goalscorer of the Salvadoran league almost every season this decade, has been basically non-existent in league play and it showed in the game vs. Cruz Azul. the midfield was invisible the whole game also, so that didn't help much. anyways, the game was for either team, Arabe did have their chances, just didn't capitalize.

Now have to go Cruz Azul's house and somehow pull off a victory. Cruz Azul most definitely, 98% sure, will put in their whole starting team this time. I'll start my finger crossing, positive energy and prayers from now!! :)

First team to the playoffs : Atletico Chiriqui, that makes it 3 consecutive seasons. Hopefully they play well this time in the playoffs.

the other 3 spots are up for grabs between:

    Arabe Unido
    San Francisco
    Alianza

    Chorrillo F.C.
    Plaza
Tauro F.C. (somehow has a chance, considering they were last just 4 weeks ago, but midseason signing, "Matagato" Renteria, has been on a scoring binge..)

Just curious....what is the brand of Mitre ball are they using en Liga Panamena? Im surprised that they are using a ball which has long been a British institution. Is that a 32-panel or 18-panel ball.

For the Gold Cup game in Tampa, the details are

Panama Supporters (Comando Canalero, Extrema Roja, Marea Roja, etc) have a section reserved in section #146.. behind the goal, almost to the corner.

This section is normally $40, but we worked out $35 plus $10 service fee. The service fee is per order, NOT PER TICKET, so it's best to buy the tix in groups.

Unfortunately, we were not able to get the discount via www.ticketmaster.com Instead, you need to fax your order to the ticketing group, Sunburst Ent. Group. Then pickup the tickets at WILL CALL window at the Stadium.

also, we're planning a tailgate/picnic prior to the game

At this link you can download the form, fill it out and fax it. http://comandocanalero.com/informacion-boletos-panama-estados-unidos.html

MetroChile... hablando de Garces, su compadre querido ha sido elegido por goal.com como Player of the Week..

World Player Of The Week: Luis Tejada - Panama

Join Goal.com in saluting another player worthy of global recognition

    13-Jun-2011 12:50:00 PM

Welcome to Goal.com's regular feature: Goal.com World Player of the Week. Each week our worldwide team of editors will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com International, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday. It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention...

Goal.com World Player of the Week #108: Luis Tejada(Castrol Ranking: N/A)
    Club: Juan Aurich

    Country: Panama
    Age: 29
    Role: Forward
Achievement: Played instrumental role in Panama's defeat of the USA

Panama registered a sensational 2-1 victory over the USA in their Gold Cup encounter on Saturday, and Luis Tejada was the man who rose to the occasion in attack. The 29-year-old forward opened the scoring after just 19 minutes and was a handful for the US defensive unit throughout the match, embarking on a number of dangerous, purposeful runs.
The Americans had never lost a group game in the competition before, but they went down to a Tejada-inspired Panama, who revelled in their surprise win.
Congratulations to Luis Tejada, Goal.com's 108th World Player of the Week! [IMG]
    Honourable Mentions
Marvin Martin – France (Castrol Ranking: 634)
Martin is considered as one of the better prospects for France’s future and the 23-year-old made a stupendous debut against Ukraine. He came on for the final 15 minutes and scored twice in Laurent Blanc’s side’s 4-1 victory.
Javier Hernandez – Mexico (Castrol Ranking: 27)

The Manchester United striker is in red-hot form for Mexico in the opening stages of the Gold Cup campaign. Hernandez scored a hat-trick against El Salvador in their 5-0 victory and followed it up with a brace against Cuba.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Sweden (Castrol Ranking: 69)
The AC Milan striker came off the bench after 25 minutes in Sweden’s match against Finland and netted a hat-trick in their 5-0 triumph.
David Forde – Republic of Ireland (Castrol Ranking: N/A)
The Millwall goalkeeper started against Italy and displayed a confident performance between the sticks for the Republic of Ireland. Ireland won 2-0 and Forde made sure that Italy’s attacking players were to be denied.
Felipe Baloy – Panama (Castrol Ranking: N/A)
Panama’s main man at the back, Baloy saw to it that the USA did not get past their defensive unit. There was heavy pressure from the American attackers but Baloy ensured Panama eventually held on for a memorable 2-1 win.

^Seriously, what's the point of posting that video in this section? Why not in ours? Stop trying to start fighting, insulting, etc. Let's be a little more mature than that, yeah?

Special thanks to Panama for helping us get into this round. Hopefully, we repay you with a victory. :) Honestly, though I'm just glad that at least two Central American teams will have a chance at the final.
