ok, what does this mean for possible expansion teams

If they don't declare will they be left out ?

Or does this play into an expansion draft ?

Today was supposedly the "drop dead" date for potential expansion teams, as per a Marone/Foley twitter conversation. Considering that we got a free agency announcement instead of a CT announcement today, I'm reading that as 2012 will have just five teams.
Which sucks b/c there will be only two games per weekend - 20% of the league will be sitting around those days. And if they want an 18-game season again, that's four or five games per opponent, and would need 23 weekends (assuming no midweek games, which of course is false, but just to put it in perspective.)

Sorry, I'm getting OT. Free agency.

BOS and WNY have announced a lot of re-sign-ings already. I assume then that basically everyone else is a free agent?

They don't want an 18-game season. The coaches (an a certain ex-owner) have been lobbying for a longer tournament break. Expect under the circumstances to have 15 weeks of season at most, which means up to 16 games (each opponent 4 times).

Less teams, less spots.... condenced talent pool.... and ATL will still be signing at the least amount of dollars it can get players

Congrats to Bos and SB, you will make the playoffs this year !!!

Everyone plays for positioning, what an exciting season this will be !!!

Pray for the team that sign Boxx

5 teams means 3 playoff teams. No way do they make 80% of the field in the playoffs, right? Right? come on WPS!

under the current circumstances, it might be time for dan to file suit to get this franchise back but his pool of talent is being dispersed at this moment. i guess there is no CT team, right? it was all smoke.

Well it looks like 11/10 is the "big day"; Foley says we will know by tomorrow.

"big meetings today will know the answer on Connecticut tomorrow, and I will be sure to let everybody know if it is 2012 or 2013" @Terry_Foley

I can't believe I was expecting some sort of list of players still available so we could actually have an informed discussion. The WPS article essentially said "Just wanted to let you all know there's stuff going on. 'kay, B-Bye."

A List would be nice, confirmation that there will not be a new team this year would be nice too

Our Game Magazine has reported that Sky Blue FC has signed Manon Melis (from Malmo and top scorer in Damallsvenskan for 2010 and 2011) and Candace Chapman (Can int'l and was with WNY Flash last season).

From what I can tell so far, the following are signed:

    ATL : none

BOS : Hemmings, Osborne, Reed, Schoepfer, Scott, Smith, Spisak, Winters

PHI : Jones, Krzysik, Lindsey, Lohman, McNeill, Robinson, Rodriguez, Sanderson

    NJ : Blank, Chapman, Melis

WNY : Bock, Edwards, Engen, Harris, Morgan, Riley, Sinclair, Zerboni

If your favorite player's last name isn't listed above, then she's in the ~5/6 of last year's player pool that is current a free agent.

Sorry but that list is incorrect. It has been stated that both Philly and Atlanta have 0 players signed. In fact Philly already stated that Joanna Lohman will not be playing with them next year, which probably rules out Lianne Sanderson too.

Hehe no need for apologies. I have been trying to keep track myself. I have been watching news releases, twitter feeds, and checking the rosters. I wasn't sure if you had seen something before me.

Interesting that Morgan is the only current USWNT player (WWC roster) that has a team right now...

I am excited to hear where everyone turns up. There is a good chance someone will be left out.

basically, the NT players will get split amongst 4 teams. it's not like fitz will carry them. top 2 in attendance with no real brand names and minimum salary, so why would he? oh, brother.

Seeing how Fitz pretty much dumped many of them, I doubt he is willing to spend more money.

We know where Abby may end up. But she won't be able to boss that coach around.

Where is Hope Solo going? I'm sure she commands a nice salary. Who will pay for her?
Who will pay for an aging Boxx, an aging Rampone? And it's a shame that some of these will replace promising kids on other teams.

    so, sahlen isn't resigning marta?

hope is still making money, will just train for the olympics and keep her side gigs?

rampone? she still has the best wheels of any defender in the wps, can still keep pace with marta. she'd anchor my defense. if anything, fitz should pick her up, just to try and keep the games 0-0 late and pick up a couple of wins this season.

Krieger also has a team. You wonder if more players would take the european option.

Technically, WPS still hasn't been certified by USSF, right? That might open up options for USWNT members.
