Rijkaard is the first Barcelona coach to ever win twice in El Bernabeau. I think this warrants its own thread and discussion.

are you kidding me? I'm stunned that it never happened in the past during the late 90s.

Yep positive. It was on the Barcelona website and the GolTV commentators made mention of it as well.

    Congratulations, Frank.

Absolutely! I couldn't be more happier for Frankie. He's truly on the path of the greats (coaching wise). Even El Maestro, Johan, could only manage 1 win in 8 tries!

I still dont think he is a great coach, but it doesnt matter as long as he does just enough to have a great team, which he has done. I wont complain...that much. :)

I think Rijkaard is a players-manager, not a Fergie or a Mourinho. He knows what he's got and he just has to prepare them to the utmost each week. He takes a simple approach to the game.

It helps when you have the World's Best player, World's best player under age 19, Africa's Best Player, Spain's best Defender, and class professionals at all the other positions.

You could be right, but that seems strange to me. I remember a few years back, pre-Ronaldinho, when one of the prevailing notions was that Rijkaard was exasperated with his team because they couldn't execute like he could when he was playing. The adage being that great players can't make great coaches because they can't deal with players who aren't as great as they were.

Perhaps now, as you say, he just takes it simple. "Hey Ronnie... go out there and embarass some RBs. Shoot, or don't. E'too will be around somewhere." :D
