Benzema picks up a groin injury 2 days before Blanc names his squad. Could this mean a starting position for Giroud?

benzema is still being called up no matter what thats my guess

nolan roux and Gomis are being calledup if Benzema isn't by that chance along with Gameiro and Giroud

He's having scans today which doesn't sound good. Why would he be called up if he's injured? If there's an extra spot available then why not call up Griezmann, Roux, Amalfitano or even Grennier and at least give them a chance to get the callup and opportunity to train with the NT?

I hope Benz can play but if not, it might be a good opportunity to get a clear idea on who will be the #2 striker moving toward Euro12.

And Im sure Gomis will get a call up.

Griezmann really needs and should be called up with Amalfitano, not sure about Grennier tho

Grenier isn't ready for primetime I feel. And if Benzema is knacked, this is a perfect chance to explore the CF pool that we have to work with. This might actually be a blessing in disguise.

Saha??? Wow! That came out of nowhere. I think Gomis deserved a spot, and if not Gomis, then maybe someone like Roux. And by the way, what's up with Remy? Is he injured?

I was expecting to see Gomis in there, and I was hoping Malouda and Diarra would get dropped.

I feel that losing Benzema is huge blow to the squad for this matchup. Germany will feel very confident going into the game and our midfield is really going to need to deliver in order to get service to our strikers in this one.

Diaby is also injured so I wonder if Nasri will start or if Blanc will line up a 4-4-2 possibly?

As for Saha, its an interesting choice. He has more experience that many of the other options and maybe Blanc feels that he wont be as intimidated against a powerhouse like Germany.

Like AfcnHrbMan said earlier, it could be a blessing in disguise. This is a pre-tournament friendly after all. Sure, it would be great to get a win but most importantly this is a match for experimentation. Blanc needs to nail down quite a bit before June including who is the #2 striker. Giroud looks to be in contention for Gameiro's spot and this game will be a great opportunity to find that out. Who knows, maybe Giroud will score a brace and Blanc can consider implementing a dual striker formation or maybe even a starting lone striker role for him. Even if France lose 4-0 and we see obvious signs of good and poor play from certain individuals, then a lot will be learned moving forward.

Definitely agree that Blanc needs to know who his number 2 and number 3 strikers are. I feel that Benzema is really the only known quantity at this point. Has Gameiro really proven anything at this point? By june he may no longer even be at the squad if he's not a starter at PSG and continues to struggle in general. I would prefer Gomis in the squad over him anyway. Somehow I think that Giroud has more potential to do big things in blue but its really more of a hunch at this point, and really his spot is up for grabs also. We could see Saha and Cissé making it back into the squad for the Euro, its so unpredictable.

Gameiro is fading fast. He's behind Benzema, Remy, Giroud, and Gomis in the pecking order.

Nice to see them signing autographs for a change. I was struck by what Mr. Roustan said in his video blog about how he thinks the members of the team "ne sont pas sympas". I hope that Blanc has been able to start instilling some humility into this squad by now.

There's no way Cissé is making it back to the squad imo

BLANC DOES NOT LIKE GOMIS AND HELL WILL FREEZE OVER BEFORE HE GIVES HIM AN HONEST LOOK.
