Good news. Did McCullers or the FoxSports guy say anything about a midweek show? Is Katie Witham gone?
No, you didn't miss it. Nothing is mentioned it the Crew press release about "live". I think it was just assumed. Found this on the Fox Sports Ohio page about the deal http://www.foxsportsohio.com/02/22/...ding_crew.html?blockID=671512&feedID=3724 They also have the crew schedule there with air times. Based on that, I think it is a safe assumption that they will be live.
New Crew specific section is now live on the website, including the Crew logo in the website header: http://www.foxsportsohio.com/pages/crew/ All the games will be live, the only qualifier is that they will use alternate channels when games overlap with the reds. However it will probably vary by market which game is on primary vs alternate channel.
Hopefully a midweek, pregame, and/or postgame shows will happen. It would be nice to get the press conferences on TV, similar to what they do with CBJ telecasts. However, they said nothing about a host, which usually takes control of the extra coverage. I also assume that Dwight and Duncan will travel with the team. No mention of Dante. Didn't he do some games last year, or was that now two years ago?
Having something called "Soccer Night in Ohio" would indicate to me there will pre/post match coverage. It will be interesting if Dwight and Duncan do in fact travel, the tv broadcast team hasn't traveled in recent memory and has just added commentary from cbus. Would be a huge step up in professionalism, but I'm not betting on it for every game. Neil Sika (radio) is usually the only one that travels. Dante is joining the FC Dallas broadcast team, it was on twitter a while ago, but you may be able to find a story somewhere.
I tweeted him back about it and he said he's still living here and just traveling for the job, Columbus keeps another in it's orbit!
I also love the fact that the viewership goes from 1.7MM households to 5.7MM. Awesomeness. It doesn't take very many of those additional households to say, "That looks like fun. I want to go check it out." This is just awesome.
I really like this if they use it to push the Crew as more of a team for the entire region. Sure we'll have to fight Chicago for Indianapolis but Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh that's great. We Don't need Detroit they have people with names that end with an extra D and stuff like that. Add in Louisville and Lexington that's a lot of market to work with. Still annoyed we let the Fire get an academy in Indy first.
an increase of 335% in viewership. If the crew captures 1%...just 1% thats 40000 people. (captures= goes to a game) One would hope out of 40000 we could find a few more season ticket holders.
But, fuel is supposed to go through the roof this summer. I travel 117.6 miles one way to every match. For a new "fan" seeing a match on TV, the cost may be prohibitive just in travel.
"fox sports ohio will produce and televise 32 crew games this season". I thought all mls games were produced by the league. It used to be "winner communications" or something like that. Gamecreek always provides the truck at crew stadium. Back when hdnet was doing games they would have their own truck for the hd production. Anyways if fso is producing, then im just hoping we get some improved graphics over what onn offered. They were fine 5 years ago but looked dated the last couple of seasons.
34 MLS games. 32 on Fox Sports, 2 are on the NBC Sports channel (what used to be Versus). The two are the @Philly game and the home game with the Galaxy.
