I guess it's not really spreading the wealth around, but I'd probably drop Beckham for a Raul-Keane strike duo.

In any case, looks like Philly's going after him.

Reports in Italy say that ADP-LAG is a done deal.

Take it with a grain of salt, though.

Definitely boggles my mind. I don't think he'd take non-DP money...but if it does happen...wow!

My worst fear is that he indeed is coming for DP money, then one of our current DPs (most likely LD) will be on his way out. But I feel like he's only gonna play at most one more season, so maybe that short amount of time warrants a non-DP contract.

I just really hope he is coming with non DP money. He is a short term solution. Maybe he can be effective for another season but we shouldn't be relying on him.

He better be coming for non-DP money...that or the league better make another exception for our Galaxy ;)...38 is too old for DP money...no way is he worth LD and why get rid of Beckham for a guy that is a year older.

If Del Piero were to come over, does anyone know about what time that would occur? I think there are two more games in Serie A play, so he will definitely finish off the season there. His contract is up after those couple of game, right? So he could probably start negotiating a contract in a few weeks, only if he is coming, of course.

1 more match, and presumably the Coppa Italia final. He has played as a sub mostly this season, so he should be relatively fresh.

Nesta took non-DP money to sign with Montreal, so Del Piero will have to learn and do the same if he wants to come to LA. But I'm sure that 5 million looks pretty good to play in Thailand. I hope he still has desire to play and accomplish team goals. The Galaxy is not a not place to get a drink and celebrate your career and make the "Del Piero American Victory Tour."

Not just that, but the Impact announced a price cut along with the signing. It would be nice to see that trend followed too. :)

Still.. all these Italians running about smacks of desperation. They should have flocked over when they were still world champs, not world chumps.

Why is it so hard to comprehend there is no "nixing" any high price players on our squad? We could drop Barrett or Buddle tomorrow and it would not change a single thing inregards to our salary cap. We would still be on the hook for their salary. It doesn't go anywhere.

Yup. The ins and outs of MLS salary cap rules are just foreign to most soccer fans more familiar with the way other nations operate. The whole value of salary caps has been mooted to death on BigSoccer, and I am not trying to re-open that issue. The point is, that those who have taken the time (or absorbed it by osmosis over a LONG exposure) ought not to be too surprised by some of these misconceptions.

I can comprehend that just fine.

If we trade them for allocation money isnt that opening up salary cap space?

Who in their right mind is going to take Chad Barrett and his salary? Best you could possibly hope for is that another team would take him if we eat his salary and provide netting to put behind their goals to protect the fans from his errant shots. Buddle maybe but I don't see any reason to trade Buddle for some 38 year old has been looking for a nice beach to finish his career on. Buddle has given more to this team and league than a 38 yr. Del Piero ever possibly could.

According to this article Swiss club Sion have their eyes on him, but Del Piero still prefers the Galaxy:
