Used to love watching Fox Sports Espanol when their main draw was Argentina League games back in 1997/98 time frame.
I don't see the big deal about it - the programming will still be available on the Speed replacement. The real problem exists only for the Bundesliga fans, since the league is too small for Fox Sports and too big for the soon to be extinct GolTV. beIN doesn't seem to have any more room to spare, so the only avenue out of it is online.
GOL TV's DirecTV English-language SD and HD channel slots were dropped in favor of BeIN Sport and BeIN Sport HD. GOL TV still exists (at least for now, albeit only in SD ) in the DirecTV Spanish-language channels tier. -G
Isn't the Big Ten network aligned with Fox? They could get some games switched over, or sign a deal with the Big 10.
If the Big Ten moved games to Fox Sports 1 they wouldn't have any to hold hostage to force people to pay for their online subscription, so I don't see ot happening.
I agree. Also find it interesting that Waldo has now become the kinder, more gentle Waldo after all this went down. What choice did he have if he wanted to get back on the scene somehow. I have said for a decade that the day Fox Soccer died, or at very least MLS had other real options, would be a great day for the local game. That day has arrived. Fox Soccer showed they cared little about US Soccer...unless the US part paid the put it on their channel, or there was almost no fee that they would have to pay...some great partner in helping grow the game (extreme sarcasm there).
The next contract is coming up for the B1G. The conference is going to leverage FOX Sports and the Big Ten Network for more money from espn or elsewhere. As it is, it's basically third choice games that go on the Big Ten Network.
Yup, maybe less, but less carp stuff also u would assume. I fear for the Bliga. I hope it gets on somewhere. I would really miss it.
I get the sentiment here. But I don't think anyone needs to "fear for the Bliga." (Although, viewers here can certainly and selfishly fear for their own access to be able to watch the Bliga.) The Bundesliga is doing fine -- with or without a contract to be presented via tv to the available/interested US audience. If anyone would really miss the Bundesliga, they could always move to Germany. (or maybe US public television could bring back Soccer Made in Germany.)
I could see ESPN picking up the league, mostly for online broadcasts, but putting a few on in the morning like they do with the EPL currently.
Bundesliga doesn't pull nowhere the number that the EPL does. It would be a space filler for the FSC. When it became a schedule leader for GolTV ... GolTV basically folded. ESPN is mostly out of the soccer biz, so they won't be interested in putting much money into Buli rights either. One can only hope that NBCSN buys it for an occasional broadcast - Pep going to Bayern is a pretty darn good publicity - and a wide online availability.
At least at Casa Ismitje, no entity except Fox Soccer killed Fox Soccer. Anything I was interested in they treated poorly or ditched altogether. If they had been a better partner for MLS, the league might not have jumped. And I was a big fan of the Fox Soccer Report - almost nightly viewing for me - but that went away in favor of another "hipper" approach to covering the game. I never watched again.
I would love to watch - nothing on the schedule this weekend though. EDIT: I think we're veering between several broadcast outlets.
I've got to say that I'm happy to see FSC's demise. From an American soccer fan prospective, I think the channel had a detrimental effect on growing the sport with it's completely over the top promotion of coverage of the EPL, basically implying that all other leagues were not worth following (not just MLS, but other leagues in Europe and elsewhere).
