I'm guilty of not hanging around the boards much. I still read them though and watch WPS but I've only seen a few games this year. With KC opening the new stadium I've spent many a day travelling. this season. Took my son and daughter to the USA game in June, which they loved.
While we've been keeping track of our WWC players, Cinalli has been ripping it up in Chicago: http://chicagolandsoccernews.com/teams/redstars2.php?article_id=9089
GREAT match for Hope today - some great saves from the run of play, and two of six PKs saved (even if one was recalled for encroachment - at least the ref was consistent and recalled Brazil's first save in the shootout). The last PK she let in, interestingly, was from Francielle.
I was thinking the same thing when Francielle stepped up. Hey, they're former teammates. I'll give young Francielle her due, she was calm and put hers away. Great for Hope. Still a lot of work left to do for the US team though.
LOL..I had forgotten that. What happened to rokagrl? Doesn't she ever come around anymore? I told her I'd like to buy an Athletica scarf from her!
On the forums? No. On Facebook? Yes. She and several other Laclede's Army members have been going to Piasa and Lions games.
Thanks but some people are still not on facebook. Considering THIS is the hub of soccer activity it would be nice if she came here once in a while. Are you guys getting together anywhere in town to watch the Women's World Cup games?
I love that story! And I love the photo! It's neat to hear things like that! (sniff; sniff...still bleeding green...)
Yeah, I remember that because I was there! But at the time I didn't know who she was. I only found out later when I read it on here!
Sara Larsson was named Player of the Match by FIFA in Sweden's 2-1 victory over France for 3rd place. Larsson hit a beautiful ball out of the back onto Schelin who scored for Sweden's first goal. http://www.fifa.com/womensworldcup/matches/round=255991/match=300144446/summary.html
Amanda Cinalli scored twice today to lead the Chicago Red Stars to a 4-0 victory over FC Indiana in the WPSL Midwest playoffs.
Final finishes for Athletica players in the World Cup Aya Miyama (Japan) Champions. She scored the tying goal in regulation to send the match to overtime. Hope Solo, Shannon Boxx, and Jill Loyden (USA) Second Place. Solo received the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper and the Bronze Ball as the third best player. Sara Larsson and Madelaine Edlund (Sweden) Third Place. Francielle and Elaine (Brazil) Quarterfinalists. Eniola Aluko and Anita Asante (England) Quarterfinalists. Veronice Perez (Mexico) Third Place in Group B. Melissa Tancredi (Canada) Fourth Place in Group A. Congratulations to all!
Classy comments by Solo after the World Cup final. She said a bigger force was pulling for Japan. She also said a goalie peaks at 38. LOL She said she's not going anywhere and will be back on the USWNT. Wombat made classy comments as well.
Several former Athletica players were competing in the WPSL playoffs. The Orange County Wave defeated Boston Aztec 3-0 in one semifinal yesterday. Kristina Larsen plays for Orange County and Niki Cross plays for Boston. The Chicago Red Stars defeated the Tampa Bay Hellenic in the other semifinal. Amanda Cinalli (as noted by others) plays for CRS and Elise Weber did also, except I don't see her in the boxscore. I did find this article which quotes Weber from a few days ago: http://newcity.com/2011/07/26/one-g...o-capitalize-on-u-s-womens-world-cup-success/
News courtesy of rokagrl....Hope Solo is going to be on Dancing with the Stars in the upcoming season.
There was a nice piece on Lori Chalupny on Channel 5 (NBC) news tonight. She is now assistant coach at Washington University here in St. Louis. She even scrimmages with them. If I can find it on the website, I will post the link.
Not "former Athletica", but my friend on the team says Heather Mitts is also practicing with them. =-) Also... is it bad that I never mentioned anything even though I've known Lori would be coming here since my friend told me at the end of last semester? ^.^''
No, not bad, but it's funny you should say that, because I thought I read it on one of the forums earlier. When I went back to try to check, I couldn't find any mention of it anywhere, so I went ahead and posted it. Are you sure you didn't post it somewhere, because I could have sworn that I read it hear before?
