I saw in 2010 at the period of the World Cup and I am reviewing some episodes in YouTube. Very good, but I missed some notable players. There is also the Football's Greatest Managers.
This is the "Football Icon" doc on Sir Bobby Charlton fr. the BBC: "But, once he was a colossus out here-" !!
These are more of interview features fr. BBC Radio; this one is w/Denis Law of Man. Utd. & Scotland fame and presented by Jimmy Armfield: There's links to the others in the series on the same page...
Well recommended Roy. I gave the Tommy Lawton and Jimmy Greaves episodes a listen . I think there is another interview with Lawton on Youtube somewhere as well that I recall listening to, unless it was the same one! That interview with Jimmy Armfield was done not very long before Lawton died, but he is very clear in his thoughts and memories and gives a glowing reference to Shearer I noticed and even says that he didn't work as hard as Shearer when not in possession (showing humour but I guess also with some true basis behind it).
[Once again, you are quite welcome and that toon99 bloke does some really good up-loads (??) IMO. Lawton v. Shearer in the work rate dept.: Lawton was originally brought up as a "pyramid"-mould C-F in the Everton developmental scheme and in his early days in the senior team. Earlier in Lawton's career when he wore the No.9 shirt in the "W-M" (or in a variant formation); Lawton had too much of a tendency to drop back a bit deeper off the front-line, move from side-to-side quite frequently, spend too much time facing the opposition's goal and the like. Bill "Dixie" Dean was also an influential mentor in how Lawton approached the centre-forward position... Coaches spent quite a bit of time and effort in getting Lawton to do things like staying far forward in the "spearhead" role and keeping his back to the opposition's goal when he was ahead of the ball: so much of Lawton was talking about there was him actually doing his on-the-pitch job according to the attacking schemes and tactics of the era...]
This is the late Nat Lofthouse's appearance on "This Is Your Life": Good footage of "Lofty" shredding opposition defences in this one IMO...
This is the Sir Bobby Charlton episode of "This is Your Life" fr. '69: "Bestie" even manages to show up sober for once...
[This is the "FGM" episode for Bob Paisley: Once again, I hope that you will find this information helpful...]
Part 1 of the Jimmy Greaves profile from the same radio series w/Jimmy Armfield: This one's for you "PDG"...
