So, obviously we're in a winter olympiad, but this all makes me curious, what options do Sochi locals have for football? It seems like FC Zhemchuzhina-Sochi folded a couple years ago. Are there any other pro teams to follow in that general area?

FK Krasnodar? Kuban Krasnodar? Gazprom Stavropol? Chernomorets Novorosiysk? Druzhba Maikop? Mashuk Pyatigorsk? Biolog Novokubansk?

Krasnodar isn't Sochi. Sochi doesn't have a football team.

Sochi is part of Krasnodar Krai and if they do not have the team in the city, they can support other Krasnodar Krai (or just South of Russia, in general) clubs. Their problem would be similar to Kryvyi Rih situation, or Truskavets, or Mukacheve, etc.

Sochi doesn't have the population or pride to support an RPL side. Stick to swimming and banging.

That's not the point. They just built a huge stadium that they will use during WC 2018. Nobody to play in it, money laundered lol

    Nacional Tijuana repped this.

Yeah, the stadium is kind of what got me thinking about this. I know about Krasnodar in the RPL, but I thought Sochi was in a completely different part of that krai.

Ah, well. Just a point of curiosity. Kind of lost track of Russia anyhow after Torpedo were sent down.

The stadium will be a winter training center for the Russian football team. As for an RPL team I dunno. Football is pretty popular but it's mostly Barcelona and Real Madrid that are popular. Even in Krasnodar not many people admit to being fans of the local team.

Yeah, and any new team would probably not start off right in the RPL, at least I'd assume that to be true. I wonder at what level new teams are acommodated in Russia.

Beautiful stadium, though, and I look forward to seeing the RNT make some sort of use of it.

Sochi could get pushed through into the RPL like neighbors FC Krasnodar were a few years back.
