Re: Flying to Lisbon It definitely is. I find that they could really explode that part of the city if they wanted to. They could connect the entire coast line between Vila Real and Monte Gordo, and I think they should.... But I guess thats what Portimao is for...
No I haven't been to Portimao hear it is awesome thought. Anyway I hear Sagres has awesome downhill rock climbing Funchal is the best place though. The women are out of this world and the clubs are awesome very Europe meets everyone else in Funchal. Lots of Scandinavian people and Germans. In the summer Funchal is one big Orgy lol
I don't know. I hear Portimao is crazy during the summertime. Something like 200,000 people from Portugal and abroad flock there. They have numerous beaches all around the city, including the huge strip, and praia de rocha. I been there when I was really young, because I remember the rocky beaches, but I don't remember the people, the vibe or the city itself. Everyone that I hear talk about it, have saudades immediately...
Portimao is awesome, I have a home near by. The night life is more torwards the younger wild side. Really cool bars, lap dancing kareoke all out in the open. Fun for all the ages, the beaches are awesome too. Can't wait till summer.
But Lisboa is awesome and they have some freaks the younger crowd 20-35 listen to alot of Techno, best time to go to the clubs is Fall, Winter and early Summer. When I was there I heard Nelly Furatdo Forca but it was a techno version the song was kickass I will go back awesome place and the Fado bars are one of a kind. Azulejos everyehere At night the city deserve to be called the cidade da luz the Boulavard with the awesome street lights you feel like a king When I was there I dressed like a GQ model and drank like a giggolo lol felt like the guys from a night at the roxbury oh the memories
oh and for the single man or girl the best place to hook up believe it or not is at the Cafe's oh man the stories I have
Last time I flew into Lisboa, I immediately hopped on a train to Braga It was nice being greeted by Jesus with open arms though. I saw our first round UEFA Cup game as well. Seems like so long ago but it's the same season. ahhh Memories. Can't wait 'till August. This time I will be headed to the Algarve for a couple of days.
I hate resurrecting older threads, but it looks like I'll (finally!) be going to Lisboa to see a Sporting match in the coming year. I've booked a week in February that would enable me to see the derby on Feb. 20/11 as well as the 2nd Leg of the Round-of-32 in the Europa League on Feb. 24/11 (hopefully they win the group or else this part is moot). Anyways, can anyone recommend a decent hotel that would be close to Alvalade? Tourist sites, decent restaurants - anything else to consider? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance. FS
I'm going to be in Lisboa Monte Gordo for the month of July. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a USB internet stick in Europe while I am there? Is it even possible?
Nice! I am guessing I will have no problem finding a store in the Lisboa area? EDIT: Nevermind I answered my own question. Thanks for the help Chess!
Hi Guys, havent been on here for what seems like forever. My previous name was TheSpecialoneJM but i forgot all my log in information....so now I'm using this username. i am going on a study abroad program for 7 weeks this upcoming summer. I leave next tuesday for Ponta Delgada in Sao Miguel....then 2 weeks later we're spending 3 weeks in Porto and the remaining 2 weeks we will spend in lisboa. I'm hoping to attend the Eusebio cup between Arsenal and Benfica on August 6th...keeping my fingers crossed. What I am wondering is: How is the night life in Ponta delgada, lisbon, and Porto? What clubs, cafes, ect should i go too. How are the women? As i read this thread it seems that the women from Lisboa are stuck up haha. What places should I avoid as well in all 3 places? I hear lisboa is pretty dangerous at night in certain places but where exactly? Any info would be appreciated. In sao miguel I will be staying at Pousada de Juventude de ponta delgada In Porto I will be staying at the Residencia Universitaria worldspru Porto Campanha....which from what I understand is a minute walk from the Dragao and the center of Porto In lisbon I will be staying at Residencia universitaria zone spru sapaterios....which from what I understand is near the river. Has anyone stayed at these places before? Any info will be appreciated
Well, if you're concerned about women I can already tell you that Residência Universitária have their fair share of foreign students (oh, the good days I spent there ). However, if it's something "national" that you want I can already assure that it won't be easy. The northern you are, the harder it is. So don't believe that Lisbon stuck up story, women are more open-minded in the south. As for nightlife in Porto it highly depends of what you're looking for. What do you have in mind?
Like good clubs with electric/techno music? Any Popular cafe's in Porto near where im staying that I should go to? Generally how are the people in Porto? Thanks for the info btw.
Aaahhm, well, I'm not very knowledgeable on such but I know the hottest spot is in Zona Industrial. You should note that down. It's hard to miss the clubs once you there. None. Actually, you'll be in a crappy place with little or nothing to do. For alternative bars and the kind you will have to take the subway to downtown. So it's a good thing that the subway station is exactly located right next to the Residencial Universitária - and no, it's not dangerous. Once there, you have alot to pick from. Just have in mind that for the most part they're european artsy bars, we have no anglo pub/disco stuff here. And be prepared to walk a bit. One suggestion though, forget the riverside on Porto's side, not a good place. Well, people from Porto are generally friendly even though they look gloomy for the most part. Nothing to worry here.
So im officialy in Porto now. What clubs should i go to? Which should I avoid? What neighborhoods do I avoid? Im staying in campanha, looks like a favela to be honest lol. I like the place im staying at though, close to the metro. I will be going to lisbon in 3 weeks. Does anyone know how much tickets for the eusebio cup will be?
I don't want to hijack this thread, but here's a suggestion. Chess_Panther knows Porto like the back of his hand, so I won't attempt to suggest places to see in Porto If you are looking for a short hop out of the city for a day or two then head north on the red line (metro) towards Povoa de Varzim. Take in Vila do Conde and Povoa de Varzim. Beaches aren't bad and there's plenty to see. Who knows, you might even see Bruno Alves playing some beach volley or soccer.
Welcome. Yeah, I told you, that place looks like shit. There are no neighborhoods to avoid close to you, people look like shit as well there but you have nothing to worry about. Clubs you already know, Zona Industrial. You might have some more around Foz (place by the beachside) and Matosinhos (where Zona Industrial is). You can follow vaiamerda's suggestions which I will add Esposende (even though a more deserted area of the kind). It really depends of what you're looking for, my guess is that you're not into culture that much and rather have fun. I will drop Boavista area as the most expensive bars and discos you can probably go to. However, they're very dispersed from each other so you'll need a vehicle or take a gamble. So, that's pretty much it. If you're into fun, try downtown, Boavista (research) and Zona Industrial. There are also clubs and bars in surrounding places of the periphery and even cities up north. However, for this, you really need to know someone locally. Even for residents that's a need if you want to enjoy different experiences as the information is scarce. If you're into culture, take a walk around downtown in the morning or afternoon and enjoy. Everything you really need to see is there. There are other places worth checking like Serralves, but they're a bit far away from where you're staying. Oh, and take a visit to the wine cellars on Gaia's side of the river.
Well im here for a culture class, so we do go visit alot of historic places in Porto. Today we´re going to one of the wine cellars in Gaia. Im in boavista everyday considering Universidad da letra do Porto is there. I had fun the other night in Ribera with their drink specials (2 baldes for the price of 1). Os tripeiros are very interesting people lol. Like the city so far.
Im going to be in lisbon for the eusebio cup game vs arsenal...do you guys think tickets will still be available 3 days before the game? and typically how much are the prices.
Haha what are the odds. I typically have class from 9 to 12:30. If you are around let me know and we can grab a beer.
