Fluminense Trying to Work Out Deal to Land Romario

Fluminense is trying to become Romario's home for the 2002 Brasileirao. The Rio club has initiated contract talks, but the financial demands of a player of Romario's status look to be the biggest obstacles.

To help improve their chances, Flu is trying to line-up some sponsors such as Coca-Cola to help land the world-famous striker.

At 36 Romario's age, in addition to financial clout, has kept many would-be suitors at bay, but the man led the Brasileirao in scoring just a year ago while playing for Vasco da Gama.

Re: Romario nuevo jugador del Fluminense

Man, I am not sure that I am happy. I never thought I would see Romario playing for the tricolor. I don't like him, but he still is a great player and I hope he does well. :)

He will start on the 11th at the Maracana.
    — É uma honra e um prazer jogar num clube de história como o Fluminense, ainda mais no ano do centenário. Espero marcar o maior número possível de gols — afirmou Romário, bem ao seu estilo, em entrevista à Rádio Tupi.

Did you know that he when he played for Vasco, he had problems scoring against Fluminense? Former Flu's Goal Keeper Paulo Victor never took a goal from the baixinho!

I think he will score a lot at Flu. The team has a solid defense and midfield, but since Roger left to Benfica, they are strugling on the offense. I hope Romario will fix that.

So the deal is official right. I was told by someone else that it wasn't. I have faith that he will be the goal scorer that Fluminense is looking for.

    Romario Agrees To Join Fluminese

Legendary Brazilian striker Romario has agreed to join Fluminense, the rivals of his former club Flamingo.

It is understood that Romario's wages will be paid by Coca Cola, the company Romario helps to advertise, and Unimed, Fluminense's sponsor.

The deal is extra special for the Brazilian club as this is their centenary year.

"I'm very happy to play for Fluminense, and even more in this special year for them. It's a honour for me," said Romario.

Because Fluminense are struggling with major financial problems, Romario's wages will be paid by two companies - Coca Cola, for whom the hitman is their chief advertising figure in Brazil, and Unimed, who are Fluminense's main sponsor.

I never thought I would live to see such thing. This guy never make much goals against Flu, so I hope he makes many in favor, now that he is one of us.

    Question about Fluminense

I don't know much about that club but I heard about the club's existence and the Fla-Flu rivalry. How did the club came to be and what was behind the history of Fla-Flu?

Oscar Cox and Mario Rocha were in London and didn't find easily a new uniform with just 2 colors .So, they suggested a uniform with 3 colors. In 1904, the Fluminense F.C., became a tricolor club.

I'm sorry about my english, ok?

    Fluminense's love case with relegation

After falling from the first to the 3rd division in the late 90s - only returning to Série A of Brasileirão after being lifted by CBF - Fluminense is back struggling to don't be relegated to Série B again.

    CAlberto to Benfica?

Read where Benfica is after Carlos Alberto. This could just be media speculation, as is common.

    http://jbonline.terra.com.br/

However if there is some truth, the scary thing about the article is how little Flu seems to be willing to take for him, and how everyone has their hands in a potential deal.
    ----------------------------------------------

    -----------------------------------------------

Is today's Benfica the right place for such a talent?

To those who asked about Fluminense's current status:

Even as in the last 3 years we have been fighting to be brazilian's champions for the 3rd time, in 2003 the fight has been different. This year, unfortunally, Fluminense is trying not to be relagated. Although there are some good players, like Kleber (Goalkeeper), Rodolfo (Defender), Carlos Alberto (Attacking Midfielder) and Romário (well.. you probably know him), there are also many bad players.

    -------------------------------------------------

O hino do Fluminense Football Club:

    Sou Tricolor de Coração
Sou do Clube tantas vezes campeão
    Fascina pela sua disciplina
    O Fluminense me domina
    Eu tenho amor ao Tricolor
    Salve o querido pavilhão
Das 3 cores que traduzem tradição
    A paz, a esperança e o vigor
    Unido e forte pelo esporte
    Eu sou é tricolor

    Vence o Fluminense
    Com o verde da esperança
    Pois quem espera sempre alcança
Clube que orgulha o Brasil, retumbante de glórias e vitórias mil

    Vence o Fluminense
    Com o sangue do encarnado
    Com amor e com vigor
Faz a torcida querida vibrar com emoção o Tricampeão

    Vence o Fluminense
    Usando a fidalguia
    Branco é paz e harmonia
Brilha ao sol da manhã ou à luz de um refletor
    Salve o Tricolor

    Re: Question about Fluminense

Fluminense was founded in 1902, by Oscar Cox. Until 1906, they only played friendly matches, but then the Campeonato Carioca became real, an official competition, and the champion on the first 4 editions (1906, 07, 08 and 09) was Fluminense. In 1911, there was some kind of misunderstanding between the board and the players, and 9 of them went to flamengo and started flamengo's football.

In the first Fla x Flu in history, it was the Fluminense main team from the last year (representing flamengo) against Fluminense reserve team (representing Fluminense).

Even being, in theory, inferior players than those who were playing for flamengo, Fluminense won the game with a goal in the last minute. And there is born the rivality that still lasts and has done nothing but to grow along thw history of the two clubs.

    Re: Fluminese info?

Fluminense was born in 1902. Our history is full of glories. We won 29 times the Rio de Janeiro's Championship and twice the National Championship (1970 and 1984). In 1952 we won the the World Championship of Clubs. As you must have realized by my words and GuiFlu's message our great victories have lately been sporadic.

Nowadays, our best player is Romario, who was the MAN in 1994 World Cup. Other good player is Carlos Alberto, a 18 year-boy who probably will play in Europe in the next season. The same can happen with the deffender Rodolfo, and both players play in the National Team which will compete for the Olympic Games.

Our hopes are placed in the young players Toró e Arouca, 17, who have played in all Brazilian Teams.

    Three new players announced !!

Just updating the news about Fluminense, the soccer player Euller will play for Fluminense in this season, as well as Leonardo Moura and Juan (who was playing for Arsenal).
Fluminense is investing a lot this year, in order to have a great team and try to win the championships that he's is going to compete.
Marcelinho Carioca, who was playing in Qatar, might be annouced too! Some details are pending, although Fluminense's managers will try to solve it as quick as possible !!
Fluminense will offer a contract to Ramon, but this player may play for Vasco da Gama next season.

Since my last post, some changes have happened concerning soccer players.
Euller is not playing for FLUMINENSE anymore. He's injured and would take almost 2 months to be in a good shape. So FLUMINENSE won't have this player in its squad.
But FLUMINENSE bought Edmundo and Ramon, instead of Marcelinho, because he (Marcelinho) chose Vasco da Gama.
Flamengo didn't bought anyone, and worse, Edilson is disappeared. Noone knows where he is !
    Vasco bought Marcelinho.
Botafogo bought some unknown players, as well as flamengo.
Later, I'll post the squad for the 4 big teams of Rio de Janeiro.
