If we go by this logic, then why are Gomez and Mertesacker in the list? No one seems to expect Merte to do well while very few expect Gomez not to flop if he starts. I think Merte can play ok given Germany start the first game with a win, they generally shut down offenses quite well in games that actually matter. Plus when there aren't disaster defensive players like Aoglol or Schmelzer, it helps. I still prefer Hummels.. so I hope the guy has a good 2 years in CL with Dortmund and starts in the World Cup 2014.
Those Gomez predictions looking pretty wrong, huh? So anyone care to venture who is the flop so far? I would have to say Poldi or Müller or Özil. While they have not have been total flops, they are certainly playing FAR below expectations.
Well, it is hard to say...Poldi hs done great defensive work allowing Lahm to run up a lot. He also scored. Mueller may have missed some serious sitters and gives the ball away but adds some dynamics to the final third. Oezil should not even be here...he's having a good tourney so far. I can't say we have a "flop" right now.
Agree. But for me those three have been disappointing. They just seem "off". That could be a good thing if they find their on switch in the next three games.
It is never too late to flop. Look at how many goals he scored in the Champions league this season but people will always remember that he flopped big time in the final against Chelsea.
Germany went 3-0 for the first time ever, he had several key goals and set up Poldi for his. He may not score again but he can hardly be called a flop. Now Robben? There's a flop.
You know he was the only one finishing his penalty with composure. If he had gotten the one in extra time, then all those German internationals would be CL winners.
He scored a world class goal against Germany with his uncomfortable right foot and was played out of position vs Portugal and Sneijder not playing as number 10 in that game.
I'd say Benzema, Mr. "I'm the only world class player in the team" Should be replaced with "I'm the worst player on the team" after the first 3 matches.
7min: Denmark need to wake up here. Arjen Robben sneaks behind the defence on the left flank to pick up a pass, but his low cross is side-footed wide by Van Persie. 43min: A chance at each end. Krohn-Delhi's low shot is well picked out from the bottom corner by Stekelenburg but it's the Dutch who waste the best opportunity. Van Persie is found unmarked in the box but his first touch is awful and it makes his weaker right-foot effort easier to parry away for Andersen 50min: I'm pretty sure in a north London safe-house somewhere, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keeping the real Van Persie under wraps in cotton wool. The striker again finds himself through on goal, but as he is about to let fly completely misses his kick
Vs Germany 6 min Another chance goes begging for RVP! Hummels slides alarmingly out of position and the Arsenal striker that doesn't much like playing in an orange kit is put through down the middle of the pitch. Hurries his shot, and it's straight at Neuer. Should have done better 11 min Another big miss from Van Persie! Sneijder the provider again, through ball setting the striker through on the right-hand side of the area. Shoots with his right foot, and it hits his left and ends well wide. Has he been to bed since the Denmark game? He seems to have picked up exactly where he left off. Van Persie's woes in front of goal seemed set to continue, and were further highlighted on 24 minutes when his German counterpart Gomez gave him a lesson in clinical finishing. GaryLineker Gary Lineker This Van Persie is not as good as his brother who plays for Arsenal. #Goonersiblings http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/euro-2012/9316042/Holland-v-Germany-live.html
Vs Portugal 88'Sneijder plays Van Persie through - he's just onside but shoots wide of the right-hand post. Bad miss.
6 great chances missed in 6 games an average of 2 great miss per game and Van persie is not a flop? FYI he wasnt subed out in any of the game he played a total of 270+mins Yet we are waiting for the top scorer of the tournament with 3 goals in 3 games to flop Hilarious
Historically the top scorer of the tourney has scored 4 or fewer goals in 8 of 13 tournaments. Only four times have 5 goals been scored. Not sure why a guy who has scored 3 goals across 3 games and in the hunt for top scorer is being bashed. Oh wait, now I understand why. :rolls eyes:
