In the last tournaments we have seen often a player of the starting 11, that has flopped big time and then replaced (Jansen, Gomez anyone). Who's turn it's this time?

Most likely it is going to be Hummels or Boateng and ..... yeah I guess Mertesacker. I would put them in that same order too.

Boateng - no. We do not expect no offensive actions from him - and he will be good in defense.
Gomez - he will not start - Klose will. And there is Müller. I do not know why but Müller is always somewhere near when Gomez scores and he is never on the sideline. It was like this today, too...
    Kroos won't start. Schweinsteiger will.

Yes, Merte or Hummels. One because he just is not mobile enough and the other one because he might be too overeager...

I don't see Boateng or Khedira flopping. They will at least do enough to look ok, which is my problem with both of them. Mertesacker I can see flopping but if Germany dominates this tourney and looses around the end, he will likely have only one chance to flop, so it's doubtful. I'd prefer Hummels.

The normal answer would be Gomez, Podolski or Hummels for me. But I can see Hummels not starting and I would think Gomez will score a few but you never know..

Why is it so certain that Klose will start? Doesn't the Israel team imply what the starting XI is excluding Basti due to his injury?

No. I was sure that every Bayern player will get a starting spot today (apart from Schweinsteiger) as they have not been there Saturday. So that match does not really change the situation that we already knew.

Klose for sure will start ahead of Gomez. That just works better. And Löw sticks to the players that have had success before - if they are in form. And Klose will be.

And Boateng already had better chances to start when you look at the last matches of the German team. He is certainly no offensive revelation but he will contribute more shape to the defense and there is some dangerous wingers in the teams of our opponents.

And the discussion Kroos versus Khedira is one only Kroos fanboys really have made. For them Kroos even is better than Schweinsteiger.

So the only open question will be that of Hummels or Mertesacker - and who would have thought that that would be a difficult one...

For me, Gomez will be the one to watch. He will do well against smaller teams, but won't do well against bigger teams. Khedira will do well, though his pace may throw him off I think him and schweini are absolutely going to dominate this tournament.

Boateng will be fine, he's solid defensively - thats all thats required of him.

Merte will do OK, shame Hummels won't start but there you have it.

He has been pretty bad since right after the World Cup. There have been 2 or 3 games where he performed well during these past two years and those were against small teams, after Podolski had been heavily criticized and - at least according to the media - was close to losing his starting spot.

I can see poldi not doing much this tournament..

I think his time has passed to be honest..

Time to pass the torch to schurrle/reus...

By definition, a "flop" is someone expected to do well but then gets cut somewhere down the line. This makes the likes of Merte a non-starter as he nobody is really expecting a series of defensive master classes from him. I hope things prove otherwise, but I have this nasty feeling that Gomez may well repeat his performance of four years ago.

Podolski has always done well in tournaments so (2006, 2008, 2010) so I'm expecting him to pick his form up. And I thought he was pretty good against Israel. Maybe not as clinical as he should have been but penetrating, fast, dangerous. The entire team was mediocre to decent so whatever...

As I have a weird gut feeling that the whole team will kinda fail...but otherwise I somehow think that IF Kroos is to replace Schweinsteiger he will fail handsdown.

After the Israel match, Id say Kroos if he starts.

But sadly it will probably be Merte. He has a tonne of rust to shake off and is not a top 2 CB for us, IMO, but will likely start.

I've a gut feel that Oezil will be a flop at this Euro. I think he'll face a massive burnout during the group stages. He already looked very below par in the Switzerland game.

    I just hope I'm wrong.

Hard to believe that a meaningless miss like that which occurs every good striker created such a hate to Mario. Before that it was quite the opposite, he was player of the year and the new incarnation of christ. It's really a pitty. Hope he does well against Portugal.

    Rephrasing the question:

The players whom I believe will perform below (my) expectations
    Oezil
    Klose
    Hummels

Those who I think will perform above my expectations
    Badstuber
    Boateng
    Schuerrle

Those who will play like how I expect them to:
    Neuer
    Gomez
    Schweini
    Lahm

I really think schurrle will be the surprise joker of this team this tournament..

He literally can't stop scoring on the NT this year.

I hope gotze and reus make great impact subs aswell:)
