Hi everyone A long time ago, I played a football game against a team called 'Ulster', and I noticed their emblem had the logo of the 'star of david' and a hand on top of it, kind of like the logo in this flag: I always though it was an jewish team, but now learned it was a team of irish, north irish, scottish, english, ...etc. players. So my question is, what is the meaning behind this emblem? Are most of the supporters of Ulster, of Jewish decent? Is there a relation with Israel? And what does the hand mean? Thanks in advance
Not everything is related to Israel, you know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulster_Banner I mean, you actually link the banner from Wikipedia, why not read the article?
It's quite obvoiusly not a star of David. And both meanings you asked for are explained in the article - six pointed star representing six counties of Ulster and all. And Britannica says pretty much the same: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/1355428/Northern-Ireland-flag-of And I'd say that it is somewhat more likely that an Irish team would go for the Irish symbolism rather than trying to show support for Israel.
Probably trying to figure out why Nationalists and Unionists wave Palestinian and Israeli flags at each other.
well, I mean, it's clear why someone could come to that conclusion but man, the answer was so easy to find I dare say a cursory Google would have answered the question
