Oh, I don't think GBS should jump right to head coach. I think it'd be silly and unfair. Though, I'd love him to be a Crew coach in some capacity.

And you said "ANY level," not college or professional or high school or Uncle Rick's Backyard Barbeque League. Be more precise.

I do think you're going overboard here. Some players do successfully transition into the coaching ranks. I think that's what the other posters have taken you to task on. You have just as little evidence that GBS would be a flop as the others have that he'd be our messiah.

It is worth noting that some of us would take an unproven guy with no professional coaching experience over a proven first-round playoff exit.

    - Who knew Krypto was such a Bob Warzycha fan? Well you learn something new every day.

    - Only on this board could Schelotto be good enough to be offered a managerial position in the Argentine top division, but not good enough to coach Columbus Crew.

    - Ekpo and Rogers look like big losses after 1 week.

    - I'm not panicking about the season because it's extremely difficult to win away on First Kick. Even the Massive Champion 2008 squad lost to New York for their home opener (or was it DC?)

    - We have played 511 consecutive scoreless minutes at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

They call them interim HEAD COACH not interim water boy. The words HEAD COACH mean something.

I've been a Chelsea fan for as long as I can remember. If that makes me an idiot, so be it. At least it's not Man U.:p

I would love to see the soccer brain trust on these boards if we hired AVB.

Indeed. That's what he could have assistants for. They might know the league a little better and can help him learn the rules... no big deal.

GBS head coach and Duncan and Frankie for assistants ;)

Little known fact is that GBS's twin brother does in fact coach. I think his last team was in Peru.

We lost to New York in week 2 but are you sure it was their home opener?

It was the week after the Moffat rocket blasted off vs. TFC.

Yeah we lost to Red Balls in week 2. We looked pretty inept in that match. Of course we went on a tear and were what 8-1-1 after 10 games?

We won five straight after that loss but started the summer on a 3 game losing streak. What a great year though.

When Guille was injured at the end of the summer we went on a long unbeaten streak IIRC. That just goes to show how stacked our team was even without our MVP. I'm so glad I was around to witness everything.

Getting back on topic though, I remain neutral about RW. It's going to take a lot more than losing an away game to Colorado for me to want him fired.

If we miss the playoffs, however, I think the time will have come to find a replacement.

We have no where to go but up right now, and fortunately for us we have a bye week to work out the kinks and a home opener versus the expansion team. We'll be fine.

Yea, if we don't make the playoffs and get past the first round then yea time to look else where for a new manager.

You mean like the past three seasons?

And I'm pretty sure we won't be getting past the first round if we don't make the playoffs, but maybe I'm wrong on that one.

The Polish Rifle has definitely worn out his welcome.

He came out negatively as usual - with 1 forward; which I don't think Renteria is good at.

Then down 1-0 he goes forward for forward, instead of pulling a defensive player.

It was his poor evaluation that Urso was game-ready.

He has had this unusual hard-on for Francis (a junior college nobody) - who can only pass the ball out of bounds or to an opponent, causing additional and unnecessary pressure on the defense - since the beginning.

He never has the team prepared to compete from the beginning (of a game or season). They always come out on the back foot. So either he's not motivating them or holding them accountable - or both. Real (on the road), the Whitecaps, the Dynamo (on the road), the Ex-Wizards (on the road), the Timbers, and FCD were all ready from the drop to pound their opponents - no excuses that it is week 1.

(I'm so tired of the bellyaching about playing on the road. These guys are pro athletes. The game is the same no matter where it is played. Even at altitude - which as Dwight pointed out the 2012 Rapids aren't acclimated to either, they came out lax and never had any possession; it wasn't simply wearing out.)

He was the one who wanted Iro out. He got his way. Now when they are thin at defender - as was shown multiple times last year - they are awful. O'Rourke is only suited at this point for playing D-Mid, and pushing him back opened the door to Urso.

And Tchani - I have a new least-favorite player - absolutely useless. Another great pick-up by Warzycha and Bliss.

First off, I want to say that I agree with the majority of KCbus's comments in this thread. Beyond that, all of you also need to get off the Caleb Porter train because you're dreaming. I don't like Robert either, but with this new crop, we at least have to give him a chance to justify the direction in which he's trying to take the club. I mean, no team, in any sport in the world fires a coach after one match. I'm also not going to sit here and pretend that Columbus is a super desirable job. Lastly, I haven't heard anyone suggest a decent or realistic replacement. Besides the completely unrealistic Caleb Porter and GBS, does anyone has a decent coach in mind?

How many chances/years does he deserve? The Warzycha-led Crew has never had, nor will it ever have, direction. Some teams have systems or styles of play. I have never been able to define the Crew under Warzycha. There seems to be no plan. Or maybe the plan is to have no plan.

Oh, yeah? ... Brazilian coach fired after two days.

Everyone has been referring to Caleb Porter as just that - a dream. So I'm not sure what you're all spun up about. It's not like everyone is thinking it's anywhere near happening.

I think we all KNOW that RW won't get fired. Which is why there is so much vitriol spewed in this thread.

Did you guys watch Timbers last night? They attacked like a drunken submarine commander and kept launching torpedos and to the hell with defending.......then you got Philly playing like the Crew. All defending with a spurt of a counterattack. ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz......Portland is a 2nd year team and they make the Crew, a charter member, look like they are the expansion squad. Portland won't make it out of the stacked west, but dammit they are entertaining.

I would never think I'd have to explain something this simple and basic, but I guess a lot of the people who post here aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

    Sigh.

When discussing how I want Warzycha out and why I think GBS would be a good candidate to replace him, a few things must be taken into consideration. First, this is Columbus. We aren't going to get Bruce Arena. We aren't going to get any of the other top managers in the league, except under very particular circumstances, like those under which we were lucky to get Sigi. So, everyone can dream about Pep or Jose or Sven coming to coach us, but it's not going to happen, ever, so get over it. As far as nearly everyone else in the world is concerned, the Crew are a mediocre club in a backwater town.

The one thing Guille has over all those people, something his naysayers either don't get or can't understand, is a commitment to Columbus. A commitment to the town, and a commitment to the club. If asked, he probably would serve. This, and not some imaginary magic ability, is what separates him from other 'possibilities.' If you think that I want GBS is coach because I think he's infallible, well, you're a moron. I want him because he's demonstrated a commitment to three things - winning soccer, winning attractive soccer, and winning, attractive soccer in Columbus Ohio. Name me anyone else who combines those three things. Anyone.

As much as I want RW gone everything you said in the above paragraph could be said about RW as well as Guille.
